Message

[edit]

I don't think Limbaugh despises the message of the song, which is about how change and the destruction of small town America is bad (a very Limabugh idea) He just poked fun at the singer/songwriter for being an extreme liberal activist. The song itself has his message written all over it, and that is why he uses it. J Shultz 14:53, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He may not despise the song, but I highly doubt that it has his message all over it.--FVZA_Colonel 21:06, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just a friendly suggestion: Perhaps you should listen to his program for a week or so and empirically discover for yourself whether or not the song has his message all over it. 24.214.238.86 (talk) 14:17, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As I understand it, Limbaugh always paid the song's publisher for use of the song. It's always been illegal to not pay for use. The whole issue a few years back was that some court ruled in favor of artists' rights. That, regardless of the business dealings, the artist retains rights over how his/her material is used, along with financial consideration. Limbaugh had to use alternate theme songs for some weeks as Chrissie Hynde was determining if she could live with his use of the song. She finally said he could use it but wanted her royalties to go toward PETA or some like-minded organization. Net-net: Limbaugh continues to pay the publisher and (apparently) a portion of that goes to an organization in ways agreed to by Chrissie and the song's publisher. There was also some interview Hynde did (don't recall when) where she mentions her parents listening to Limbaugh's show and liking it and she was apparently amiable to that circumstance. 24.214.238.86 (talk) 14:21, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am pretty sure, but not certain enough to put this on the main page, that Hynde would automatically get royalties for Limbaugh's use of the recording. (Well, actually radio stations can use the recording itself for free, but the song, which has a separate copyright, has to be paid for.) The PETA agreement indicates that there was probably an out of court settlement of some sort, although this may just mean that Hynde and Limbaugh have a good sense of humor about this whole thing. A clear citation would go a long way to improving the last paragraph of that section. You know, "fact-based" writing. Huw Powell (talk) 04:28, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

US vs. UK Spelling

[edit]

As a general rule, if an entry references something within the boundries of the USA, then the spelling should reflect the US norm.

Although PETA is a global corporation with organizational 'chapters' worldwide, it was created in the USA in 1980 and its headquarters is located in Norfolk, Virginia.216.170.144.5 12:48, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
