Use of the word Myth[edit]

I am not sure, but I think that if I were a strongly believing traditionalist Indonesian, I would be particularly offended by the frequent usage of the word "myth" especially when it comes to beliefs that are still in existence. For example regarding the heading "Creation myth," I think it would be better and more inoffensive to rename the heading to "Beliefs about Creation" or something that does not evoke the feeling of arrogance towards people of different beliefs. A myth has, at least in my opinion, negative connotations, as it insinuates that the particular belief is in some way wrong - Just imagine you are a person of faith and someone calls your beliefs myths. Generally, the rule seems to be that a myth or a mythology is linked to a religion that no longer exists, for example Greek, Roman, Egyprian or Norse mythology. I can hardly imagine that anyone besides a hardcore atheist or internet troll would call Christian or Muslim beliefs myths, so if we refer to other existent religions or traditional beliefs as myths, it could appear as an act of prejudice or religious hatred that makes the article sound somewhat subjective. Please forgive me if I am wrong here, but I would just like to bring this to the attention of anyone who cares or anyone who could correct me in what I am saying. --Highschoolpuppettier (talk) 09:24, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
