Natas Kaupas; as a young streetskater in the 1980's Natas Kakupas was a hero of mine and many like me. I would see pictures in magazines of Natas or catch some footage of him in a skateboard video and he was so inspiring. He was one of the first true "street skater" pros. Everyone remembers his pointy-nose boards with the panther graphics. Also, all the kids were intrigued by his name because if you spell "Natas" backwards....well you get it. The story goes if he had been a girl his mom was going to name him Natasha. Back in the day, no one could ollie higher than Natas he was the very first one to ollie onto a park bench. He won his first competition on a homemade board out in the rain. And he was also very famous for doing a trick where he would ollie onto the top of a fire hydrant and while balanced there on top of the hydrant he would spin around 360 degrees and land back on the ground on all four wheels, also known as the Natas spin. When the kids saw this in the skate video it was insane! I also remember as a teenager traveling to Santa Monica where Natas was from and skating on the very sidewalks and curbs that I used to watch him skate in the old videos and I was from Tennessee so it was a big deal for a young fellar like myself. I think Natas was always viewed as being pretty eccentric.
which joker said his name backwards is Satan? anyway good page, keep up the good work. Natas was an influence of myself.
