Main image dispute[edit]

I reverted the article back to the condition it was in when I added Image 1, below. I believe this better represents the subject than the previous photo that User:AgnosticPreachersKid replaced mine with. I cite the now-inactive but still relevant appropriate illustrations: image purpose policy. Image 1 shows the National Building Museum from the front at a normal angle. It's centered and displays one of the main architectural elements of the building: the large vaulted roof and its tall windows. Image 2 is taken at an odd angle, and shows the side, not the main entrance, as does Image 1. AgnosticPreachersKid's reason for replacement was time the photo was taken. While Image 1 is a year or two old, the view has not changed, and IMO the quality and completeness of Image 1 easily trumps the age reference made by AgnosticPreachersKid. Note that National building museum3.jpg has also been used. It is identical to Image 2 and was used in List of museums in Washington, D.C. which I also reverted to use Image 1. ~~See its discussion page.~~ I am not just trying to get my photo back up (yes, Image 1 is my creation); I am fully happy with somebody replacing this with something of higher quailty. I feel Image 2 does not better represent the subject at hand.

Update: National building museum3.jpg (Image 3 below), referenced above, is not identical to Image 2, but is extremely similar. Neither should be used instead of Image 1, IMO. Note that while there's a three year difference between the two but no notable difference.

While not particularly thrilled with the words " normal angle." I will agree that Image 1 is the best. However, more or less the same picture taken when the main facade is sunlit, thereby revealing the red color of the building (plus a bit more definition of Caspar Buberl's frieze would in my opinion, trump them all. Agreed. While I'm not a photographer (technically or creatively), I try my best (no tripod, no manual-adjust lens, etc); this is admittedly just a snapshot from a cheap digital camera taken because I was in the area. Oh and I define my world with my engineering terms (hence normal angle). With respect to the details, they would appear in separate photos that show off their aspects, not in the main photo (IMO); do you have some to contribute? I am completely open to replacing Image 1 should one with better lighting, technical quality, etc, come around; indeed I would support it. My point is just with respect to comparing these two photos, i.e. working with what we've got. ~ Wadester16 (talk) 03:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
