[edit]I'm happy to have had this article accepted so quickly as C class, as it was actually my first attempt at a full Wikipedia article. Having just come back from a holiday in Brazil, during which I had several interesting discussions with a friend about the period before and after the military coup of 1964, I found myself browsing some pages on that topic on Wikipedia, and found that some information was lacking, especially an explanation of the party of Jânio Quadros, a very curious and therefore interesting character of the period. The link to PTN took me straight to the current party, Podemos, and this of course was very confusing and certainly misleading. So I wrote a very short article, just to disambiguate a bit. This was rejected as being too insubstantial, so I started writing a "proper" article, initially based on the Portuguese page about the party, but then I tried to improve a bit on that by adding some more information.
Of course I am not an expert on this subject, and in fact my Portuguese isn't good enough to do much more than figure things out from my much better French, Italian and Spanish; failing that I use Google! So my citations are limited to what I could find referenced on the Portuguese page, and a few articles in English. I'll also admit that one of the articles that I referenced, this one about Jânio:
https://www.historiadomundo.com.br/idade-contemporanea/governo-janio-quadros.htm
does not in fact mention the PTN, and falsely states that the UDN was Jânio's party. Although this makes the reference questionable, it does reflect the fact that the PTN was a minor party which presumably would be all but forgotten but for Jânio Quadros' brief but consequential presidency.
The relative unimportance of the PTN apart from Jânio means that most of the characters mentioned as "important" in the party weren't historically important enough to already have their own page in English (most of them have at least some mention in Portuguese of course). But anyway - if anyone else wants to add a bit of information, please do so, and if I've missed out something important please add! Eastofeast (talk) 18:27, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
