Cause vs Correlation

[edit]

Clearly there is a link between youth, violent movies/video games and violence. But out of the list I can only see 3 which clearly are trying to imitate the movie. My question is whether or not they would have sought out more violent content if it weren't more available. There is no evidence, on this page, that any of these people (Except the Savage/Byres murder) acted in a violent manner because of the movie. A few demonstrate that the movie influenced how their violence was expressed but, while the movie gets blamed on their actions, it's not clear why they felt motivated to commit their crime. Do they commit violent crimes because of movies/video games or do they actually seek out these things because of an existing violent nature? A parent might assume movies cause violence but no evidence has suggested that and millions of children around the world have experienced violent movies and games without killing anyone in real life. So perhaps they seek this kind of content because of an existing desire to commit violent crimes.

You're grasping at straws trying to include "Luther Casteel" The motive is clear and any resemblance is likely coincidental. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.199.5.148 (talk) 01:50, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Earlier reports and BBFC investigation

[edit]

The BBFC made a statement at the time it was first classified (of which there is a rephrasing here[1]) that rebutted a few claims that were circulating then - it was actually in doubt whehter the claimed copycats had seen the film or even could have before their first crimes, the police involved did not support the copycat theories and the crimes were not out of character for the perpetrators. This implies there had been a number of claims of this sort as of 1994, which appear to be absent from this page, but it doesn't give any names or other details about them (although the French case they refer to is Florence Rey).Billwilson5060 (talk) 20:22, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Luther Casteel incident

[edit]

The Luther Casteel incident's formatting is radically different from all the others. All the incidents contain indented margins, whereas it doesn't (except for the header line). In addition, the incident is listed as a series of facts rather than a prose description. Ileanadu (talk) 18:38, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Angus Wallen and Kara Winn- They had allegedly watched Natural Born Killers the night before the murder, and prosecutors argued that the crime resembled a similar crime in the film where a couple kill a man, light his remains on fire, and then escape together, even though there wasn't such a scene in the film."

It's seems an editor is saying that this did not take place in film. Though it did. Mickey and Mallory set her mother on fire.198.45.184.25 (talk) 08:06, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Smith V. State?

[edit]

Back in 96, I worked as a Jailer for Stephens County, Georgia, where Smith killed Ed Shockley before fleeing to Florida. As he was being led away from the scene where he was captured, Smith boasted to TV cameramen that he was a natural born killer. I was summoned to serve on the trial in Toccoa, but excluded due to my connection with the Jail, and Smith's attempted strangling of my Sargent in a previous incident.

Can be improved by replacing "only" with "after" in the following: ″Sarah Edmondson has since been released on parole in Oklahoma only serving less than twelve years on a thirty-year sentence.″ ProfessorAndro (talk) 01:20, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
