Revision of NetDrive Article
[edit]The previous article of NetDrive should be revised because it contains several misleading information and doesn't reflect the latest information.
For example,
- Novell NetDrive is no longer available from Novell, so it's an abandonware. A different NetDrive produced by MacroData is currently available and released a newer version continuously. However, the current article just contains an information about abandonware. From a common-sense point of view, it's incomprehensible.
- The URL of Website specified as Novell NetDrive in infobox isn't true. The URL - http://www.netdrive.net - is the website of MacroData's NetDrive.
- In the key features, "Able to execute files(video, audio and any other .exe files)" isn't true in Novell NetDrive. Novell NetDrive download the full file first in order to execute any files. It's the feature of NetDrive from MacroData.
For these reasons, the revision based on facts is needed.
Now this article is revised. Hopefully any counterargument will be raised in this discussion page first. Dalzzun (talk) 05:25, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Stop hijacking the article to describe another product. - MrOllie (talk) 13:51, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear MrOllie,
Our intention isn't to hijack the article or to advertise another product using the article. We are merely trying to set the records straight and provide accurate and current information to internet users. In this regard, we notice that you mentioned in the Novell NetDrive article that said software is discontinued from Novell and is now produced by MacroData Inc. Thank you for that change. In order to provide more comprehensive information to Wikipedia users, we wonder if we can add to the article key features about MacroData’s NetDrive (which are different from those of Novell NetDrive).
The key features are as follows:
1) Able to execute files(video, audio and any other .exe files).
2) Support SFTP(using SSH) support(available from v1.1.0.1).
3) Cache files in memory, not local disk drive.
4) Above all things, it continues to release update version.
Also, the box on the right hand side(infobox) provides information on the software, such as the current version, OS, available language, etc. Again, to provide a complete and accurate information, we suggest adding MacroData NetDrive information on it as well, as such information would be helpful to internet users in general.
Thank you. Dalzzun (talk) 11:35, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- This is not an article about Macrodata's product, so I don't believe that level of detail belongs here. - MrOllie (talk) 13:48, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
I think what this guy is trying to do is pretty legitimate. Novell doesn't sell NetDrive anymore. Why won't you let him change the page?? If you think the current page describes "Novell's NetDrive" then the title of this page should say "Novell NetDrive" not just "NetDrive". This is misleading. Dudtls (talk) 02:05, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I agree -- this article is misleading. It does not accurately represent the program known as "NetDrive". If the intent of this article is to describe Novell's version of netdrive, then it should be labeled as such, and a disambiguation page can be made to reflect all various versions of "netdrive" through all time. That seems a bit of an over-reaction at this point in time. I believe that the important point of this article is that Netdrive USED TO be available through Novell, but was abandoned. There is now another program by BDrive that will map network drives. There are probably other products as well, which should also be mentioned on this page. 24.168.45.239 (talk) 03:02, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
