Notable people[edit]

I've drastically edited the notable people section today, removing all who did not have a reliable source reference either here or in their bio to their residence in New Buffalo.

Of the three sources that were here, two were highly unreliable. (one stated that its info came from this article, making it not a source at all. The other is a user edited and hence unreliable) The only reliable source was an article on summer home development from the Wall Street Journal and spoke of people that have purchased homes in the area. There is no reference at all about anyone even owning a home in New Buffalo. This article is not about the region; it is about the city itself.

There remains a question if even having a summer place is enough to list someone on the notable people list. The guidelines say that to be on the list one must either have been born there or resided a significant portion of their life there. Example would be Daily. There is ample references to the family's long time occupancy of their summer home in Michiana. I think this would satisfy the significant portion part for both Daily Sr and Jr. For Michiana, Michigan, not New Buffalo. But having a summer home for a few years hardly constitutes a "significant portion". The nature of a summer residence for a working person is they are there weekends in the warm months. Like 40 days a year. So unless we're talking a kid who grew up in a summer home (that would be 120+ days a year) or someone who has had a summer home for decades, I don't see the significance of their time there. A lot depends on how much has been written about the individual's time there.

Wikipedia has strong policy regarding both original research and biographies of living people. This means that unless a reliable source has written about a person living IN (not near) the city, you cannot include them in the list.

Discussion is invited. Better sources are encouraged. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 22:30, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
