Some content is misleading..

[edit]

The section on what NYPD cost tax payers is misleading. The source states that some including the largest settlement can from wrong imprisonment. https://gothamist.com/news/nypd-misconduct-lawsuits-cost-taxpayers-nearly-69-million-last-year

The NYPD doesn't convict people. The court are responsible. The article sites the person was convicted on allegedly false evidence... not proven. So that article is not using the sites source in the correct context. Opinon, page needs to be rewritten maybe outlining and expending how the money was awarded to victims and the stating the facts truthfully.. jacob805 Jacob805 (talk) 03:11, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we bring back this disclaimer?

[edit]

"NYPD personnel should be discouraged from editing, redacting, or otherwise adjusting the information in this instance as it not only is a conflict of interest, but also adds to the credibility of the claimants without proper vindicating evidence. If you do still feel the need for vindication, please follow the basic requirements of college students and cite your sources." Can it be brought back? As much as I appreciate the sentiment, remember that this is Wikipedia. One of the core content policies that is critical to the quality of this site is a neutral point of view, which includes the use of non-judgmental language. The tone of this disclaimer as it is presented comes off as passive-aggressive and decidedly not neutral.2001:569:79A8:BD00:1806:16A2:5733:AF28 (talk) 15:33, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
May I suggest that "should be" be changed to "are."

Article in need of a complete rewrite

[edit]

This article could be considered a POVFORK of sorts, but ignoring that, it suffers from undue coverage of events, original research, unencyclopedic tone, and no copy protection. I think this article should be rewritten or deleted 2604:CA00:168:2123:0:0:863:11B3 (talk) 16:29, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actions against journalists

[edit]

Leaving this here, since I'm not sure yet where this would fit in the article.

The NYPD has taken actions against journalists who are investigating officers or the NYPD itself.

  • 2012 - Journalist arrested while taking photos of an arrest (NYT). 2015 - one of the officers was convicted for falsifying justification for arresting the journalist (NYT).
  • 2020 - Journalist arrested while filming another arrest (The Gothamist)
  • 2020 - NYPD subpoenas Twitter for personal information about a journalist, citing a 9/11 era antiterrorism law (NYT)
  • 2023 - Journalist arrested while covering a protest over the death of Jordan Neely (Associated Press).
  • 2023 - officer admits to impersonating a 311 operator to give false information to discourage a man from reporting parking violations by the precinct (Gothamist) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mokadoshi (talkcontribs) 22:40, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • 2024 - NYPD subpoenas X (Twitter) for personal information about the president of Copwatch Patrol Unit, a police accountability organization in Brooklyn (Hell Gate)

Some of what is already in this article could be moved to this section, like the part re Graham Rayman. Thoughts on how/if this should be added?
