Official Name
[edit]The correct name is the New York State College of Agricultre and Life Sciences, which is established by the State Legislature. When the decision was made to add "and Life Sciences" to the name, getting a bill through the State Legislature was necessary. Racepacket 23:21, 6 July 2007 (UTC).
- Another editor wrote me claiming that http://www.cals.cornell.edu/cals/about/overview/index.cfm stands for the proposition that the name was changed in 1971 to drop the words "New York State" from the name. The editor is misreading that webpage, and is incorrect. The name change approved by the State Legislature was to add the words "and Life Sciences". The words "New York State" remain in the official name. Please read New York State Education Law Setion 5712, posted at http://www.cornell.edu/trustees/cornell_charter.pdf Racepacket (talk) 06:43, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- The charter seems to indicate that the full name is NYS college of agriculture and life science at Cornell University:
- The state college of agriculture, established by chapter six hundred fifty-five of the laws of nineteen hundred four, shall hereafter be known as the New York state college of agriculture and life sciences at Cornell university and shall continue to be under the supervision of the state university trustees.
- I've slid the bolding over accordingly. --Bobblehead (rants) 20:54, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Notable Alumni
[edit]SyogunAW (talk · contribs) removed the entire Notable Alumni section from the article in his 19 March 2009 edit. Granted, it currently only contains a reference to Keith Olbermann, but I thought it better to make the section into a dynamic list. --Notyourbroom (talk) 00:16, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Steven J. Anderson (talk · contribs) removed the entire Notable Alumni section from the article in his 24 March 2009 edit. I am reinstating the section again, but this time with some additions. --Notyourbroom (talk) 05:32, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
More issues with Notable Alumni
[edit]I would like to write up the following events for the record.
- 26 March 2009, 00:58: 162.129.44.19 (talk · contribs) deleted the "Notable Alumni" section.
- 26 March 2009, 00:59: 162.129.44.19 (talk · contribs) deleted the "Notable Alumni" section again.
If this continues to be an issue, I'll be requesting semi-protection. Please, if someone has an issue with the section as-is, either expand it yourself or else say something constructive on the talk page. While I understood the ambivalence toward the list when it consisted of just one person, I do not believe there is any logical reason to delete the section in its entirety anymore, because it has four sourced items now. --Notyourbroom (talk) 03:47, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- In the interest of keeping Cornell University one big happy family, please add notable alumni to the List of Cornell University people or if they are uber-notable to Cornell University#People. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 17:24, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Esbaran Amazon Field Laboratory
[edit]The college has at least half a dozen comparable off-campus sites as part of various departments. While it is notable, the current version of the page way overemphasizes the lab relative to the rest of the college. While he is esteemed, Prof. Rodriquez is but on of about 400 CALS faculty. Phytism (talk) 21:08, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. It has been tagged as needing a source since March 2010. If no sources are provided, I will delete the section. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 17:25, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Social Media
[edit]I am completing this page as part of a school project. Up until recently I had created a new wikipedia page for the Social Media. Now that it has been merged with the CALS page, I hope to give a short background to the lab itself, give brief bios of the prominent professors that work and have contributed to the lab, and detailed descriptions and links to past studies/findings that have been produced by the lab. Jwormser (talk) 00:09, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- The bios need to be cut way down and only include info directly pertinent to this article and the lab. You also need to support content using reliable sources (i.e., reputable third-party sources not under a Cornell domain), starting with the media lab in general. Only notable material should be included on Wikipedia (see WP:N, WP:NOT). Regards —Eustress talk 00:40, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
