Split article into eras?

I wonder if it would make sense to separate this into two article, once covering events in the "hippy" era from the 1960s to the end of the 1980s, and one covering the "rave" era that began with big electronic events in the 1990s. The type of music, with the folk, pop, and rock, of the "hippy" era festivals changing in the 90s to a focus on electronic dance music (The Gathering, Visionz), alternative rock (eg grunge and nu metal bands were common at the Big Day Out), and events featuring roots, reggae, dub, and hip-hop (SoundSplash, Kaikoura Roots, Raggamuffin). There was also a generational shift in the people that were organising and attending music festivals between the lates 80s and the 90s. Danylstrype (talk) 09:51, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Rename of article

Suggest rename of article to New Zealand music festivals. Having New Zealand in brackets suggest a disambig page. - SimonLyall 05:29, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

The article so far seems to only cover pop/rock music festivals. Is this the intended scope of the article, or should we add folk/blues/jazz/etc festivals as well? -- Avenue 10:34, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I think Jazz and Blues could easily fill their own article, maybe we should look at the audience count as the criteria, yes i was only thinking of the very largest events, say more than 20,000? moza 13:44, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps one could include a seperate New Zealand Music and Arts category which would incorporate a whole string of smaller events. I can think of a whole host of them including, [1] (Mombas 12:12, 10 May 2006 (UTC)).

agreed, I always thought that the content could move from the directory style page out to the individual pages, as they were established and grew. But thats a bit of work for someone. I see Parihaka was a success (well their newsletter says so)and they are planning next year already. I looked at littleweed, maybe they wil have one next year. I got an idea somewhere that 5000 people was an approximate level of notability for a person, so maybe thats a level for events. There is no real figure, just whatever the community can agree on at any given time. We seem to have th ebigees covered so I really happy and comfortable with that, and will work to validate the info that needs it in those first, Before moving too quickly on. I especially wish to expand Redwood Festival, I was there in the mid 70's and it was cool, but cant find much on it.moza 15:36, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I understand the dilemma lol. However, if one were to include the word arts as in "Music and or Arts festivals" this does in fact open up the probability of including a vast variey of other rather unique NZ gatherings including the likes of WOMAD which on all accounts was a right roarer. In the strict sense of the word festival non of the concerts in the present list, with the exception of say Nambassa or perhaps the very first Sweetwaters, really falls under the category of festival- but rather concert or Rock concert. Planned Music Festivals / Concerts

Its not accepted practice to insert info about planned concerts ahead of their occurence unless the media has created significant news about the anticipated event. Then it is permissible to write what the media says, and include the background details of the event for treference. here is an edit removed on that basis, awaiting significant media reports before it can be in the article proper;

Checkpoint Charlie

Perhaps there is something of an oversight here,what on earth does Checkpoint Charlie have to do with any New Zealand music festivals?

no oversight at all. why does everyone else have to be wrong as the first option. Checkpoint charlie wa s the name of a 'mu' music festival, in the forest near Wellington, New Zealand. I was there, I still have my ceramic on aluminium ticket / entry pass ($125) and there are some references that need bringing here, but ive done enough already.moza 10:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Today I added Alpine Unity/ Alpine, Destination, and One Love.

one One Love or two?

I'm a bit confused about whether the Wellington One Love and the Auckland/ Tauranga One Love are actually the same event, or two different events using the same name. There was definitely a Wellington event, 2010 was the 13th according to 'River' on Music.net.nz, and I found a YouTube video about a One Love in 2013 in Auckland , and articles about one in Auckland and Tauranga in 2014, and one in Tauranga in 2015. The One Love Festival website is promoting a Tauranga event for 2017. I'm going to remove the One Love entry from the 'current recurring' lists until this is cleared up.
