NO ACCENT[edit]

The name of the breed is spelled without the accent, as is the name of the tribe (but that is a battle I lost.) Please check out the official handbook of the Registry for verification.

To change the spelling is similar to changing the name of any other established breed. Why? It is what it is. PERIOD!

The argument is not convincing, as the document seems to be simply typed up using a standard American (accent-less) keyboard. I suspect the NPHR simply does not care about the accent. Which makes a little bit of sense: in the American vision, accents don't change the spelling. The only thing solidly established is the name of the tribe, Nez Percé, attested by myriads of sources (starting with the Britannica). Note how the Handbook.pdf spells this "Nez Perce Tribe". Surely the NPHR isn't trying to change the "spelling" of the tribal name? Urhixidur 03:17, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I give up! There is absolutely no argument about the correct spelling. You are wrong to spell it with the accent. The name is spelled by the tribe without the accent in all its literature. The United States National Parks and Forest Services spell the official names of the forests and monuments without the accent in all their literature. The Horse Registry in its by-laws (a legal document) uses the accent-less spelling. But hey! They are just being lazy Americans with no respect for accents. Keep putting in the accents and making the articles incorrect. I'm not bashing my head any longer. Besides, the tribe never ever used piercing as an ornamentation; so the French trappers and priests made a mistake in the first place. Robbie Giles 21:52, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe. They do have the right body build, and the horse with the bronze coat looks like a purebred Akhal-Teke. The background also looks like the Nez Perce reservation, at least it's similar to the landforms around Lewiston, Idaho (grin). Can you read the language in which the photos were posted? I get "Cavallo" and "Nez Perce," but the question is if they are really Nez Perce horses or just rather lean Appaloosa horses that happen to be owned by members of the Nez Perce tribe? It ist in the Nez Perce Reservation, but they didn't mention the breed. "Cavall a la reserva Nez Perce" means "Horse in the Nez Perce Reservation". Kersti Nebelsiek (talk) 21:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks enough like one to me, particularly given that one of the horses in the sequence on flickr is clearly an Akhal-Teke in color and body build. I say "proceed until apprehended." (grin) It doesn't really look like an "old style" Appy, and if robbie recognizes the place, I'm OK with it. (All I can say is the countryside looks like Idaho, anyway!)
