Where was the Niagara River Formed????? Where Was it born???

No mention of being one of the only north-flowing rivers in North America? Vesperholly 17:58, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not one of the only; there are hundreds of them. Pfly 01:31, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I question the clain is discarges 40% (2/5) of the freshwater in NA. Its Average flow is listed at < 6000M^3 per sec, which is Less than The Colombia (7500) and vastly less than the Mississippi (> 12,000). There is no way its 2/5. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.230.244.1 (talk) 23:13, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing unusual or noteworthy about a river flowing northward, despite a persistent non-scientific urban legend. It makes sense to mention the direction of flow, as with any river, but there's no reason to pretend that there's anything unusual or noteworthy about it. 139.68.134.1 (talk) 14:37, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

this article just came out of nowhere!!!!

where did this article come from. I am the one who created it and no one mention me at least thinking of this article. well thanks for putting it anyways.

Meaning of "Niagara"

[edit]

I just saw a PBS documentary about Niagara Falls and it was stated that "Niagara" comes from an American Indian word meaning "thunderous waters" or something similar. This should be verified and added to the article. Badagnani 02:19, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Map

[edit]

Added a satellite image, which may count as a map, so I took out the "map needed" tag. Also added a bit on the meaning of "Niagara", which apparently doesn't mean "thundering waters". Pfly 03:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I think the image is wonderful, I would suggest a general "location map" in relation to NY State and the surrounding area is called for. I've always thought that the falls were in the upper section of NY State, not the far western edge. And this article still fails to show that, if you don't know where the Erie and Ontario are compared to NY State. So I suugest that a line-map of NY state with at least some of the surrounding states, with a "Satellite Image Located HERE" "pointer" would be a worthy addition. Comparable to this map for the Adirondack State Park: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Adirondack_Park_map_with_Blue_Line.svg --167.230.96.11 (talk) 21:41, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Captain Matthew Webb

[edit]

There seems to be no reference whatsoever to the famous death of Captain Webb whilst attempting another of his feats here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.237.85.248 (talk) 01:20, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
