I think you've done a good job writing a biography about the HP of Nichiren Shoshu; in that this encyclopedia has shown it wants to include information about many diverse topics and people without bias. As a member of the Nichiren Shoshu Hokkeko Group, and former member of NSA/SGi up until 1991, I feel that this information is very accurate. I think that everyone who ever practiced this religion felt emotional during the excommunication process and especially during the demolition of the Shohondo and the Daigakuren. I had already completed three pilgramiges to Taisekiji and prayed in the Shohondo during those visits, and I also saw the demolition of the other larger structure as well. However, on closer inspection, as I entered the Shohondo I saw there was some water damage in the building.

This occurred after the explosion of Mt. Fugen of Japan. The leadership of the Hokkeko requested inspections by civil engineers of the various buildings. My first visit to the Daigakuren had a very uncomfortable feeling, I had to admit while chanting during the Mid-night Gongyo session that it felt air dry and that the ceiling would not stand up to an earthquake. The engineers finally came to the same conclusion.

The base of the Shohondo was narrower at the base, than it's top. Since 1992 and the excommunication; there have been unprecedented earth movements, including earthquakes, volcanos, and storms. The buildings had to be replaced. I had the occassion to visit Taisekiji again, in 2002 for the 750th Anniversary of the Daishonin's teachings and both new structures were opened. There were very beautiful, more more importantly, they used the traditional Japanese Architecture and I feel that the newer constructions will stand the test of time. Diluting the practice in order to keep people happy is not the way of Buddhism. I am sure that everyone who wishes to practice at Taisekiji would be most welcome to come back and start anew.
