Why is it strange that his jersey number is not retired? Nick81aku 22:08, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's strange because teams usually retire a player's jersey after their death, but the Suns did not do that here.
I just dont think its that strange. Even Len Bias who had an extremely promising career ahead did not have his number retired by the Celtics. Sure, in recent history I know that a couple of teams who who have done so (Hornets for Bobby Phills and T-Wolves for Malik Sealy come to mind) -- Of course Phills and Sealy contributed a lot to their communities (at least enough to be honored somehow) -- but other than them, Im not so sure its that common. I dont know if Vanos was that charitable in his community like others (i.e. Sealy/Phills) were, but if he was, than it should be mentioned in the article. Whatever it was that he did to deserve to have his number retired should definitely be mentioned in the article. Nick81aku 22:08, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
