Picture

I added a picture of her from the Vanity Fair article, it was removed. I believe that article was an important event in her life, if someone can please re-add it using the proper copyright tag. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Myrockstar (talkcontribs)

Please do not do this. The image used was a blatant copyright violation from the inside of a magazine. No fair-use rationale is available to cover its use. --Yamla 17:29, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, I put one that is licenced under Creative Commons, even though it looks like a run of the mill paparazzi shot. Sposato (talk) 02:16, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Holy crap, is that a mugshot being used as her picture? That is such in poor taste. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tkz001 (talkcontribs) 07:53, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Gay Icon Project

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 21:54, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Ghost Writer

I know for a fact that she didn't write a word her book. It was written by a staff writer for People magazine and then heavily chopped by Nicole's agent. Since ghostwriting is a fairly acceptable industry, would this info be "outing her" or would it just be shitty? Would this also be outing the writer in an unacceptable way?

You would need a reference link for resourcing before making that edit.--Dakota ~ ε ° 07:34, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Birth father NOT Peter Escovedo!!

She states very clearly in an interview on page 70 of the November 2005 issue of Jane magazine, "I don't know how the story came about that he is my dad, but it's not true." I thought since she expressly said that he isn't her birth father, people would listen to her, but apparently not. 66.181.234.82 17:48, 3 March 2006 (UTC)honeydew

What moron keeps posting that Pete Escovedo is her father? She CLEARLY states that he is not! If you don't believe me, simply find a November 2005 copy of Jane magazine, flip right to page 70, and it is RIGHT THERE, direct quote straight from Nicole Richie's lips!!

Lionel Richie...on tv, said and shown a picture of Nicole's father.. he's BLACK and was also a member of the Commodores

Maybe the rumor started because of her birth certificate. It lists her last name as Escovedo. The certificate would list her adopted surname if she was formally adopted. Her mother has the non-Latino-sounding surname of Moss. Questors 03:33, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

yeah, pretty sure her bio dad is none other than the purple one, Prince. Bunny frou frou 03:17, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

On Sheila E.s 'official' website (that is what the website says I am assuming it is her own website) on this page: http://www.sheilae.com/whatsnew/news2004.shtml it shows a picture of Nicole Richie and her together and calls Nicole her neice. So apparently she is an escovedo that is related to Sheila E (who is Pete Escovedos sister). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.72.1.3 (talk) 02:02, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Peter "Pete" Michael Escovedo III had 4 children: Sheila, born December 12, 1957 Juan, born March 13, 1959 Peter Michael, born July 7, 1961 Zina, born November 26, 1967

If Sheila E. claims that Nicole is her niece (and since Nicole has the surname "Escovedo") then process of eliminations tell us that either Juan or his brother Peter is her dad. If she says it's not "Pete" or "Peter" then that must mean its Juan. --MP$40 (talk) 23:17, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Inconsistent Pete Escovedo references

This article says that Pete Escovedo is the brother of Sheila E, but the Sheila E article says he's her father - which is correct? Rodparkes 10:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

There is a Nicole Escovedo web page stating that her name was originally Escovodo; later, it seems to say that she denies him as a biological parent. So is it prematute to reference her in this way?

Removed text

Removed the following text:

on wight: Nicole's wight is something everyone is talking about..her massive new look after losing a lot of wight changed her appearnce, she's not the tinny cute blonde girl with big 60's shades and cute cloths on,which is her tradmark now.-- Misspelling and contradiction.--Dakota ~ ° 04:15, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Removed text concerning Peter Escovedo being Nicole's biological father. The girl CLEARLY states on page 70 of the November 2005 issue of Jane magazine that he is NOT her biological father, but some dimwit keeps posting it on here. Isn't that vandalism? One would think that Nicole Richie expressly stating HERSELF that he isn't her father would cause people to listen to her, but apparently not.

The article says that it is rumor, which it still is. Rumors aren't all trueBauerPower 01:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I have no idea who her biological father is, but the fact that someone in showbiz denies something doesn't necessarily make it untrue. The current version of the article correctly states that there is a widespread rumour that Peter Escovedo is her father, but that she and her adoptive father deny it. Beyond that we would need a DNA test to verify either claim, so let it be. Rodparkes 02:12, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Really? On what basis? If her biological parents have not been identified, what's the source for calling her "multiracial"? Guettarda 05:00, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Ok, done. Guettarda 12:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

race?

What race is this girl, the article provides no clarity on this topic. Can we please have that clearly defined. I guess we should first define who her biological parents are as well. I don't know if escavedo or whatever his name is, is her father, but her denying as proof is silly. How the hell would she know who here biological father is? If her mama had an affair do you think that she would tell her daughter, In guess probably not, but as I said before I'm not well educated on the topic.

Apperantly Nicole is part african, french, mexican and indian but idont know if its india indian or native american indian. Hope that helps some what,Hope. 07:50, 2 July 2006 (UTC)hope.

She keeps in touch with her biological mother, and she would know who her father is. they showed a picture of him on one of her biographies.Colorfulharp233 13:28, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Nicole considers her race to be

Nicole Richie has been quoted on numerous occasions calling herself "mixed" and "black" When she first became famous, some interviewer said, "Isn't Lionel Richie a black guy?" and Nicole replied, "I am black!" She has also said that both of her biological parents are "multiracial" and that she considers herself an "African American"

hope that clarifies some things.

Sources? Guettarda 05:39, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually it was Norm MacDonald who said that. He was chatting with Paris and Nicole and Paris mentioned that Nicole was Lionel Richie's daughter. Then MacDonald asked "Isn't Lionel Richie a black guy?" because apparently he assumed she was white. MrBlondNYC 15:34, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

if people watch the simple life she has said may times on the show shes afician-amercian or black/white many be she considers herself that because many be she considers Lionel and her adoptive mother as her real parents and considers herself as apart of the same rascial group Maybe* —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.31.178.60 (talk) 02:30, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Why are all you people so obseesed with race. This is 2007, who cares anyway. She said she has mixed background. What more do you want? That is what she is. Mixed!

took the dog fluff out

(FYI)You forgot to close your parenthesis.

NO offense but Fanboys/girls/whatever you are really shouldn't be editing articles about the object of their desires; or if they do, they should think hard about it. This is a page for general information, right? It's not a fan page to dish details about her life that only fans would care about. Furthermore, that section you added reads like "Simple Life trivia." and this is supposed to be a general info page about Nicole. If you really think the dog stuff matters, consider adding it to "The Simple Life" article or better yet the trivia section on IMDb, where it belongs.

I think the whole dog section is irrelevant. It might be okay for say, Paris Hilton, because Paris is supposedly an animal rights activist, has a lot of pets, got rid of "Tinkerbell 1" because she got too big and wasn't cute enough anymore, she lost Tinkerbell for a time, etc controversey etc. Tinkerbell/whatever pet Hilton has ATM is definitely a "big part" of who she is.

In Nicole's case, well, she has two dogs and that's it. There's really no need for a section devoted to her pets that actually aren't a "big part of her life."

Dog Fluff

I happen to agree with the above user as to the relevance of the section. Also, I believe the tone is juvenile and needs work if it is to be considered for an encyclopedic entry. As such, and in accordance with the Wikipedia policies, I am reversing Daniel Olsen's decision and removing the content (and adding the appropriate tags) until the issue can be resolved pending discussions here. HabaneroMan 10:26, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Well I think that they are a big part of her life like Tinkerbell and they hve their own IMDB profiles like Tinkerbell so I think they should at least get mentioned. And I don't apriciate personal attacks like "little fanboy/girl". Jtervin 00:53, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

addition of drug abuse and anorexia

serious consideration should go into the article regarding her problems with heroin and anoerxia

Eating Disorder

I removed the section and merged it with Media Spoltlight because there is no need for mention twice. Jtervin 01:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

It's gotten so bad, it should have it's own section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.154.232.76 (talkcontribs) 15:12, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

i agree aneroxia should have its own section as it created so much controversy and is a reason why she has become increasingly famous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.234.16.145 (talkcontribs) 21:59, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Her Biological Parents

I searched online for the last ten minutes for details on her biological parents.

Seems to me like she does not want us to know who they are. So then it is quite normal that she denies it's Pete Escovedo. They look VERYYY ALIKE, he would of had been 20 when she was born, he was in Lionel's band, a percussist? She says now her father was a drummer, ok. HER BIRTH NAME IS ESCAVEDO. Pete's father looks Latino, I hear his Mexican, his mother looks mostly white with something else, latino black native perhaps. So on this side she's not Black. Her mother I have no clue who she is, but it says Afro-Latino living in Domican Republic. SHE SHOULD STOP PRETENDING TO BE WHITE-ITS SICKENING-SHE IS BLACK LIKE ME-GET OVER IT NIGOLE!

Clearly you don't know much about nicole she ALWAYS calls herself Afican-Amercian on her t.v show with paris hilton all the time, never ever White Veggiegirl (talk) 11:39, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

She is white. She is half Spanish, half Italian. By Spanish, I mean from Spain, not Latin America. She is thus 100% white. Where did you get the "Mexican" or "black" thing from? She considers herself "African-American" because she was adopted by Lionel Richie. TheGoodSon
From her, numerous interviews, one with Tyra Banks, she is 1/2 Caucasian, 1/4 Black and 1/4 Mexican but considers herself black--Sugarcubez 16:36, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

On ancestry.com her mothers maiden name is listed as Moss, and her birthname is listed as Nicole Camille Escovedo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.19.219.7 (talk) 22:06, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Syphilis?

I have been unable to find a corroborating source that Nicole Richie announced she has syphilis. The source cited by whoever added that to the bio does NOT contain any information on this. If this cannot be verified, it needs to be removed.

Vandalism

Somebody has decided to completely vandalise the whole article. What do we do? Should I delete it all?

I think I've reverted it back to normal now.

Quotations from interviews

A fan has been adding extensive quotations from interviews. Are these appropriate? Should we stick to factual claims and cite interviews intsead of quoting from them at length??--Agnaramasi 17:58, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

'Citation Needed'

I bet if you deleted all of the 'citation needed' things then this article would be like half the size. We should find some citations or just get rid of the text, becuase they make the article look messy.Nukleoptra 11:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Verifiability is more important than neatness, especially with respect to biographies. The citation needed tags should stay until citations or provided or the claims are shown to be factually incorrect and removed.--Agnaramasi 17:11, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay. Nukleoptra 13:24, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
According to Agnaramasi's instructions, I could add to the article "Nicole Ritchie saved Michael Jackson's baby from plunging to his death from a Berlin hotel balcony by tickling Jackson's tender nutsack with a feather until he backed away from the railing over which the baby precariously dangled" and as long as it had a {fact} label, you couldn't remove it until PROVEN factually incorrect! How will you prove it? Even I don't know it's not true, now that I mention it. Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson have always been close... seriously, please show me what the policy REALLY says.

Derogatory Remarks

Thewilycow 05:26, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

"YOU ANOREXIC WHORE!!!"

I don't believe this should be on this page, obviously.

Mugshot

The boilerplate for this says that mugshots can only be used "where no free alternative exists or could be created". Surely that isn't the case for Richie? A free alternative *could* be created - the fact that it hasn't been is irrelevant. 86.132.143.123 03:59, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

What's a free alternative to a mugshot? Does a fan have to be present at booking to take such a picture? Sorry, I think your argument is bogus (mugshots ARE FREE), and the real question should be whether any mugshot is appropriate for the article. In Nicloe Ritchie's case, NO. In Lindsay Lohan's, HELL YES.
Actually, I think because of Nicole's problems with the law, the current usage of the mugshot is appropriate. She has made mistakes, and she has been arrested for them, I don't think that should be devalued because she's not constantly in trouble. JamisonK 20:02, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
OK, that was a joke - I didn't really mean it, about whether the use of a mugshot image was appropriate in any given article. What's the difference between Nicole Ritchie and lindsay Lohan? None. That was the joke. Sorry. It's my own fault you missed the point on this one. My point really is on the same subject as the original poster's: What the hell is a "free alternative" to a mugshot? Mugshots are already free, for one thing, and for another, how in practice would a free alternative be produced? It would have to be a different photograph of the same event. Does Malibu PD generally allow camera-wielding hoipolloi to attend booking? Please, I am just trying to understand the issue 86.132.143.123 raised. 68.121.167.97 17:09, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Simple Life Cancellation

I added information about the cancellation of The Simple Life as I felt it was appropriate enough. I guess more could be said about the cancellation, but as previously stated on this talk page, Nicole Richie's whole life isn't about a TV show, so it's probably best suited on the Simple Life's article. In any case, if one or all of you could check it to make sure it looks/sounds/feels right, I'd appreciate it. (It's of course under the Simple Life section.) JamisonK 20:00, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Li2.jpg

Image:Li2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Nylon Magazine interview source?

"In an interview in the August, 2007 issue of Nylon - magazine Richie talked about The Simple Life: "It's not a reality show, though. It's unscripted television; that's what the audience likes. No one wants to see a show of Paris and I talking about the war or who we think the next President should be. That's not what the show is about. The show is for one purpose only: to keep people laughing."

Richie is also a producer on The Simple Life and she has a control over what airs and what doesn't."

This is what I'd like a source on specifically, but the Nylon interview is referenced (I believe) three times and there's no link to a source... maybe the article isn't online, but I think it should still be listed in the references, right? 76.205.140.56 06:29, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Music Video

I was watching Tamia's video I'm so into you and there goes Nicole Riche sitting on the floor while Tamia was singing so can someone put that on Nicole Richie wikipedia page..here's the link..if you know what Nicole looks like you will notice infact that is her... http://youtube.com/watch?v=fd0uuy4mDrE

Race Issue

I've already removed the category of Richie's race on here once only to find it put right back. Since I have never found any reliable sources that state exactly what her race is, I think this category should be left out for the time being. The reasoning that she once said she considers herself black really doesn't warrant the category being there. Evidently, she a mix of different races and since there's no category for that, again, it should be left out. The whole issue is fairly irrelevant anyhow. Her race doesn't define her life and it's not an incredibly important fact to include anyhow. If anyone feels it is paramount to include this info, it should be discussed before re-adding it. Pinkadelica (talk) 07:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Nicole's race and that mugshot

First off, whoever put that mugshot up as the image selection should definatley change that. You could have put it in the "Legal Problems" portion but the mugshot as the first image I feel is unflattering.

And for people who say things about Nicole's race... Race is not an issue at all. I just believe that it is fair to put all true facts about people on a site that is supposed to be reliable to readers. I highly doubt that the only reason Nicole says she is black is because her parents are black. That's just ridiculous. We could at least put multiracial or something. Nicole's early pictures give away the fact that she is mixed. Her kinky hair and light brown skin are serious proof. I just think it's right to acknowledge someone's mixed heritage. Los besos (talk) 02:58, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

As far as it being the mug shot being the main picture, I'm not sure I agree with it being there either. It was originally in the "Legal problems" section but was recently moved. I'm guessing another editor moved it there because the article lacks a free image. Once one is found, the picture can be moved back. As far as the race issue, I think the fact that she identifies herself as black can be stated in the article as long as it is properly sourced. It's reasonable to assume that she identifies herself as being black because she was raised by two black people and is of black heritage. No one disputes that. To disregard the rest of her heritage is irresponsible and not factual. Including the category of African American people is more questionable in my opinion. There is no Multiracial people category so unless someone decides to do a genealogy on her and include every single race she happens to be a part of, I think mentioning and sourcing it would be a sufficient addition to the article. Pinkadelica (talk) 05:41, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, you can't acknowledge it, if she herself never says what her heritage is (not that it matters). But yeah, her pics from her childhood, do provide proof of her being mixed. But because her own parents supposedly abandoned her and she was taken in by Lionel Richie, then it's no surprise if she identifies with black people more. Or white people. But as long as she's happy.Maersayer (talk) 02:50, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me but??

Excuse me but, why are all these discussions about her "general life" when in fact here it says on top of the page : This is not a forum for general discussion about the article's subject.

2008 "Dandelion" demo leak from debut album recording session

A demo from her recording sessions for her debut album has leaked. It is a cover of LFO's "Dandelion" from their second album "Life Is Good". List of celebrities who have been Punk'd

The coined-word verb in the link at the bottom of the page should be changed. The current phrasing is colloquial, taken from the program itself, and assumes that the reader is going to know what that means. I can't fix it myself because I don't know what that means and what would be accurate to replace it. How bout "Have been prank called on the show Punk'd"? "Have appeared on the show Punk'd"? thanks..

Weddiing

I heard she got married in the 45,000 person Unification Church mass wedding recently. It was in Star magazine. Anyone got a ref for this? --Uncle Ed (talk) 22:37, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

I've just been told that Star is not considered a reliable source. Maybe the story, if true, will turn up someplace else. Kitfoxxe (talk) 13:07, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
And I also heard that her supposed spouse denied the story the same day it came out. I'm glad I asked first! --Uncle Ed (talk) 17:40, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Reconciliation?

Season 5 starts with Nicole and Paris reconciling. Over what? Shouldn't there be some indication as why that was necessary?--Mfwills (talk) 10:55, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Mother

We have the name of her birth father - who was her birth mother? 86.159.39.99 (talk) 11:07, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes, why did Lionel Ritchie have to adopt her? What happened to her parents? Are they both deceased? Big hole in this story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.221.93.94 (talk) 03:11, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Birth Father

The introduction is very definite that her birth father is Peter Michael Escovedo; but the Lionel Ritchie wikipedia entry says "In a November 15, 2005, CNN interview with Ryan Seacrest, Nicole Richie denied that her birth father was a member of Richie's band." Does this call into question the identity of her actual birth father, or merely Peter Michael Escovedo's qualification as a Ritchie band "member," given the nuanced statement here: "... a musician who played for a brief time with Lionel Richie". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.206.239.35 (talk) 03:10, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

African American?

Is she actually an African American? If no, the categories should be removed. 79.223.47.191 (talk) 23:47, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Well given that her biological mother was Caucasian and the identity of her biological father is seemingly unknown, I don't know why she is being categorized as of Mexican ancestry, or as 'African American'. If Escevodo is her biological father, the 'African American' label makes no sense. (24.62.100.251 (talk) 05:14, 16 September 2011 (UTC))

She once stated she had African American ancestry. It was in the article, but I think a more experienced editor removed it. I think that's why. Dasani 20:04, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Too much vandalism

Richie's article is constantly vandalized by anonymous IPs for some reason. Spelling Style (talk) 23:05, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Have you been reporting them?--Canoe1967 (talk) 23:06, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Where can you report them? Spelling Style (talk) 04:47, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
You can report vandals to WP:AIV. However, looking through the history of the article I'm not seeing much vandalism recently - from named accounts or IP editors. Pinkadelica 05:45, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
It varies. I noticed there was usually pesty IPs who removed everything or added unnecessary edits before. Spelling Style (talk) 03:50, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Half sister of Sofia

How is Nicole half-sister to Sofia when they both have completely different parents? Wouldn't they just be adoptive siblings? Wertwert55 (talk) 16:58, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
