Posibly Reving the old Nintendo NSider Forums article?
Well it's no longer include here so why not revive the old post? --Yoshi Revoultion 01:36, 25 August 2007 (UTC) Its a futile cause man i brought it up too, the forums no longer exist, so they don't get an article anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.4.13.100 (talk) 20:57, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
False info
In the article it states that Nintendo are the partial owners of the Atlanta Hawks, but after consuting reports issued by the company, I can see no evidence for this.
- Just did a Google search about this, and I saw no information relating Nintendo to owning the Hawks. This may have to be deleted soon. --CRiyl 08:54, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

can anyone really give me an answer, am pretty sure nintendo DOESN'T OWN THE ALTANTA HAWKS, my friend lived in seattle, he heard about that, but he told me only 17 investors own the hawks, and nintendo isn't one of then, inless this happened recently
Random text block, should be removed
Could someone who has editing access remove this section, under Wii: " 200612/15 Nintendo is recalling 3.2 million straps of Wii controllers, and about 200,000 AC adapters for its DS. consumers reported they were breaking during game play. [5]". It is improperly formatted, and has nothing to do with either the article or the subsection. Also, it is wrong. There was, in fact, no recall of the straps. Nintendo offered free straps to those who needed them, not a recall. 70.74.135.191 00:46, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually you are wrong CSPC,a US government watchdog became tired of citizen's complaints and launched a urgent recall —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.247.21.109 (talk • contribs) 17:02, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- From what I've seen, neither the CPSC nor Nintendo have directly characterized the replacement program as a "recall". I also have not seen evidence that the CPSC forced Nintendo into this. If anything, it looks to me that Nintendo was doing this for PR purposes, to be a "good citizen". Dancter 17:19, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Make it shorter!
A lot of this article's length is found in the console descriptions. As there are very substantial main articles for the consoles, I think this one needs trimming.
- I agree; the information about consoles from N64 onward is far too long. I would suggest eliminating the specific "console dedicated" sections altogether (such as N64, GameCube and Wii) and integrating them into the main article itself like the section about the NES is. Ex-Nintendo Employee 20:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
This information is not relevant and should be removed:
- Nintendo is recalling 3.2 million straps of Wii controllers, and about 200,000 AC adapters for its DS. consumers reported they were breaking during game play. When I speak for Nintendo, the following consoles not mentioned are game boy SP,pocket, color, and advance,by the way does anyone remember Poke'mon pinball or rumble paks!
- Why has the article length been reduced to such an extreme? I find it totally preposterous to have a page that is related to such major relevance and popularity to be relatively bare. There is a difference between being concise and nigh on stripping an article of information. I much preferred it as it was previously. Ashnard talk 14:09, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
actual release date of magnavox odyssey?
this nintendo article says it was released in 1975, but the page for the magnavox odyssey says it was released in may of 1972.
can anyone clear this up?
- The article does not say that the Odyssey was released in 1975, it says the Odyssesy was realeased in JAPAN in 1975. These are two very different statements. Indrian 17:06, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Srong Accept, All their info has no sources. They argue that they do, but they point to "Nsider forums", which according to Wikipedia rules, do not count. Starmenclock 16:02, 27 September 2006 (UTC)- Since you nominated it, it's clear you support the merge. I Oppose per other opposers.--Ac1983fan(yell at me) 16:50, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. The problems with the NSider content aren't going to be solved by moving the content here. In addition, given the size, this article needs trimming, not expansion. A good deal of information is unnecessary repeated from other articles. Dancter 18:23, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose, Agreed with the previous user; article problems are not going to be solved by a merge. In addition, merging Nsider into the main Nintendo article (which has more of a focus on history and game development) would sound choppy. Finally, as Digipen has said, Nsider only constitues one branch of Nintendo, not Nintendo as a whole. PsychoYoshi
- Strongly Oppose. This matter does not need to be under any scrutiny as it is obvious a mere forum should not and will not be added to an article relating to the past, present and future of the company. It is uncalled-for to suggest this and totally unnecessary to discuss adding irrelavant information on an article about the Corporation of Nintendo, as this will only lead to further inconsistency in the article. FullMetal Falcon 00:20, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. It's bad enough we have an article dedicated solely to a forum in the first place. Ex-Nintendo Employee 03:44, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose. This is absurd, the information shown here is nothing like the company Nintendo. There would be no reason to merge it. I can't even imagine this being in the Nintendo article. Like I said, NO! YSHOULDUKNOW123 03:50, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Accept. Since the Nintendo NSider Forums article no longer exists, they can now be merged without adding ANY new content to the Nintendo article at all! MUAHAHAHA! ;D DavidPesta 14:15, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. This article is related to the company, not it's web site or web services. It's just not necessary to be part of this article- it's out of place. -KLink/NiN10col/Neotendo123 15:02, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. The article is nonexistent. By what I've seen above, it only has to do with the company. PS: The word you are looking for is its, KLink. RageSamurai21655 13:01, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
GA Re-Review and In-line citations
Note: This article has a very small number of in-line citations for an article of its size and currently would not pass criteria 2b.
Members of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles are in the process of doing a re-review of current Good Article listings to ensure compliance with the standards of the Good Article Criteria. (Discussion of the changes and re-review can be found here). A significant change to the GA criteria is the mandatory use of some sort of in-line citation (In accordance to WP:CITE) to be used in order for an article to pass the verification and reference criteria. It is recommended that the article's editors take a look at the inclusion of in-line citations as well as how the article stacks up against the rest of the Good Article criteria. GA reviewers will give you at least a week's time from the date of this notice to work on the in-line citations before doing a full re-review and deciding if the article still merits being considered a Good Article or would need to be de-listed. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on the Good Article project talk page or you may contact me personally. On behalf of the Good Articles Project, I want to thank you for all the time and effort that you have put into working on this article and improving the overall quality of the Wikipedia project. Major Changes / Updated Page
Under System History, I would like to suggest adding the the Virtual Boy. There was also two Nintendo marketing slogans not mentioned, but briefly used. The final days of the Super Nintendo saw "Hey, who needs a new system?" while the N64 launched with "Change the system". And on the note of the N64, it might be worth mentioning that the code-name for the project was Project Reality and until launch, it was called Ultra 64. There seem to be photos in printed media of the machine with the U64 logo in place of N64.
I have successfully re-worded, edited, and shortened the page from 64 kilobytes to 35 kilobytes. If you have any questions, or comments, post them here. I created a new page for Nintendo's history (History of Nintendo) to shorten the article (The History section was about 30 KILOBYTES!!!) too. As I said, the transition is complete. YSHOULDUKNOW123 22:19, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- I just created another page for the Divisions of Nintendo. The page is officially under 32 KB, which is about the size of what a page should be under. The transition is NOW complete! YSHOULDUKNOW123 23:22, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Please don't "covert lists to text."
Hey all, I do think the article is too long and has too many irrelevant items in the list. But I strongly disagree with the wiki-tag suggesting someone "covert the lists to text" or whatever... information in lists is almost always in a list for the very reason that it IS very cumbersome in text. So... perhaps someone could simply summarize the lists in text, or link out from this article to a website that has the information? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 156.56.169.93 (talk • contribs) .
- The format for an encyclopedia is prose. Lists should be kept at a minimun, and only when not possible to create a paragraph with the same information. The article has 4 lists, one extremely long. Prose usually gives more information than a list, makes the article visually shorter, and allow for critical commentary. -- ReyBrujo 17:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Major Vandalism
Can somebody please block 208.247.49.2 so he can NEVER edit again? He's giving Nintendo a bad name with what he's trying to add to the article. --Christknight 20:06, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
The same should be done with 68.43.235.211, as he can't seem to control himself, and refrain from bad mouthing Nintendo. --Christknight 04:56, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm sure immature vandalism wouldn't ruin Nintendo's years of reputation in the game industry, but if this vandalism keeps going at this rate, I'm going to request this article being locked. --Chicito21154 17:23, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I agree: people can't ruin Nintendo's reputation by adding little bits of vandalism to the article. But I think it's a good idea to have it locked. Yes, Wikipedia is a great encyclopedia for letting anyone go in and add what they know; but most of the edits I see on Nintendo are just pointless vandalism made by by people who aren't users, and who are nuts about whatever video game company they like. So much that they can't even respect the other companies, too. I've never looked up a locked article, so if it does get locked, will users still be able to edit the page? --Christknight 20:09, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, users will be able to still edit the article. Only unregistered users and newly registered users will not be able to edit the article. --Chicito21154 18:17, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Then yes, I fully agree that the article should be locked. Way too much pointless vandalism gets in ,and when you think about it, thounds of people read Wikipedia every minute; so who knows how many people go onto the page looking for real info, and find vandalism? --Christknight 06:56, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- It is currently locked. Scepia 07:02, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Could we please keep this site locked from now on? There's a lot of people that still don't like Nintendo- why is beyond me, and I feel that if it gets unlocked again will keep having major Vandalism occur. --Pika62221 —Preceding comment was added at 01:55, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Could we please keep this page under monitor? I mean the vandalism on the sub section "New Ventures" is very disgracefull with such edits as "buttf*cks" and "dildo". I personally am only a reader of wiki but i did make a minor change to the date from "1489" to "1889" which was correct. I find this to be major abuse of the Wikipedia service. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.225.104.255 (talk) 01:14, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
GA Delisting
Far too listy and not comprehensive enough. Needs work. --SeizureDog 01:57, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I went ahead and cleaned up a LOT of the listy-ness of this article. The only list I didn't remove was the "other hardware" section, as it strikes me as the most important. Characters, people, etc. that need to be mentioned from the removed lists should be worked into PROSE form. --SeizureDog 20:25, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Next time you remove massive amounts of data, please put it somewhere (by creating an article called Nintendo/lists, for example). --Raijinili 01:15, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- All of the lists I removed had lists or categories elsewhere. But whatever, this page is too cruft-heavy for me to rework again. It can stay messy for all I care. --SeizureDog 01:26, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Gameboy Revolution
Apparently it will be the next Nintendo hand held console (after the DS) has anyone else heard of it?Shadoom1 23:23, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Talk about Gameboy Revolution has really gone away in the past year, and Nintendo has said nothing about it. We have no idea what Nintendo's future plans are. Scepia 23:44, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
If there is very little known about this "Gameboy Revolution", I wouldn't recommend adding it to the article until more sources can be found if any at all. --Chicito21154 02:15, 12 November 2006 (UTC) I agree,it's probably not true. If anything, it should be added at least to the "Game Boy line" article. Thesims18690 21:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
are you sure that wasn't just revolution cuz that was the production name for wii nicic 16:38, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I think Nintendo wouldn't name it as Game Boy Revolution, even if it's the codename. Nintendo (as far as it seems anyway) will stop developing new entries into the Game Boy line with all of this crap about simplicity and shit. Oh yeah, and they're far more original than that. (Nintendo Brainstorming session) "Hey, Satoru Iwata, what shall we name/codename the next Nintendo handheld?" "Hmm... Well our old line of hanhelds were the Game Boys, and our last console's codename was the Revolution, so... Let's name it the Game Boy Revolution!" "Genius!" More like bullshit. Some Thoughts
You guys should write stuff about the GBC and GBA/GBA SP too.And also add an area talking about what people said or say about nintendo(Famous people and all);phrases and stuff like that.Rumors and crazy stuff releated to nintento itself would also be pretty neat.Anyways that's about it, Nintendo for life dudes;Laterz... {{unsigned|Antonyo))Rumors about reputible game companies are not for true fans,no offense, who told you dudes a Apple was gonna merge with Nintendo!
- There are sales figures for the GBC, the GBASP wasn't a big upgrade and there's little space so it wasn't included. There aren't many rumors about Nintendo that are real notable, except for the Apple merger one. And even that one hasn't been too popular for the last year. Scepia 01:50, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Speaking of Apple, I once read an article in a magazine (I forget the title, it wasn't a Nintendo one, just a popular tech kind of thing) that Nintendo has a strange habbit of making their systems look like Apple's systems. It then showed six pictures: the Apple computers that came out in fruity colors and the N64 which also came out in those clear fruity colors, an Apple unit that had a cube-like design and the GCN, and then a new white Apple laptop that had a smooth and sleek look to it(came out after original DS), and then the DS Lite. It was pretty interesting to see that Nintendo did, in fact, seem to copy Apple's designs. --Christknight 22:14, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
GB and GBA headings
I think that the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance should come under different headings under the main "Gaming systems" headline. The reason for this is that the GBA is a new iteration of game boy, just like the ps2, for example, was a new version of the ps1, and they wouldn't be under the same heading. GBA is a new system with new hardware, new specs and new software. It has been running independently of the original GameBoy for ages, it should have the recognition it deserves by having its own heading in the "Gaming Systems" part.
- Accept since they're also classified as two lines by nintendo itself. 194.120.158.162 00:11, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Nintendo means "Trusting in luck"
According to company spokesperson Yasuhiro Minagawa, at www.linuxinsider.com/rsstory/54292.html:
The name Nintendo means "trusting in luck," according Minagawa, adding that he believes it refers to hanafuda cards, which is telling today in the gaming business.
I believe this is the best sourced explanation we will be finding about the name meaning, as it has been picked from ECT and Associated Press, and reproduced in Linux Insider. -- ReyBrujo 14:02, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Cleaning the laundry.
Article was listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Laundromat, 2nd attempt to fix this. All removed information can be found at User:SeizureDog/NintendoInfoRemoved.
- Removed "Some popular franchises and characters" section as redundancy of Franchises established on Nintendo systems. Certain franchies (such as Mario) should be mentioned in prose form in various sections such as "History".
- Removed "People" section as redundacy of Category:Nintendo people. People that are truly important to Nintendo should be mentioned in prose form through sections such as "History".
- Removed "Released arcade games" section on grounds of being too narrow for the main article.
- Removed "Divisions" section on grounds of the section being too small to make it much more useful than just being a link in "See also".
- Also note the "Nintendo Developers" template makes it twice as unneeded.
- Removed "Slogans" section on grounds of being trivial.
Do NOT blindly revert this edit or simply readd what was taken out. None of the removed information comprises the article to any great degree, although certain things may need to be reworked into the article. If you well a certain something deserves to be in the article, work it into prose form. It is wiki-policy to not include many embedded lists in articles. Thank you, and I hope this can be a step towards a cleaner Nintendo article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SeizureDog (talk • contribs) 13:07, 5 December 2006 (UTC).
Unprotected?
Why was this article unprotected? We still need it protected; especially now that the Wii has come out, and enthusiasts of Playstation(Sony) and Xbox(Microsoft) are probably feeling a threat to the success of their favorite systems. If an anon really wanted to add something to the article that's not already there, they could easily create an account or just bring it up on the talk page. I think that with all this flooding vandalism, we need to block this page permanently. Christknight 19:56, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have semi-protected the page. Permanent protection is not an option, but it's clear that vandalism hasn't sufficiently died down. Andre (talk) 22:24, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
False Advertising / Legal Issues section
Personal griefs with Nintendo for specific games and or features do not belong in the article, take that up else where. 31 Flavas
These are not personal griefs. Frankyboy5 00:18, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, whatever, if anywhere the specific features and games you have grief with should be noted in those particular articles. False advertising / dropped features / trivia / dissenting option about Super Mario World should go in the Super Mario World article. Ditto for WiiConnect24. They don't belong in the Nintendo Corporate article.
- As far as the "Legal Issues" I would not believe you'd find such current events information in an encyclopedia article unless it has been an ongoing issue such as asbestos litigation or lawsuits against Big Tobacco or gun/firearms makers.
- But the more I think about it, Nintendo has been convicted of price fixing and generally bad bussiness behavior in the past. So I guess I wouldn't be against you restoring the section or expanding it to include past transgressions.
What are the sources for the price fixing and generally bad business behavior? I've heard about this but I don't know where to find a source. Frankyboy5 01:26, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Falsity
"The NES was the first console for which the manufacturer openly courted third-party developers." Atari et al? 67.35.241.52 18:52, 24 December 2006 (UTC) yes Atari was the first to come out with a console
- Someone can correct me here where I am wrong, but Atari absolutely did NOT like 3rd parties and sued to keep them off the console. Atari lost, of course, and that is why 3rd party Atari games exist. Whether or not Nintendo was first, I don't know, but Nintendo welcomed 3rd party developers. Where as Atari despised them because it ment competition and lower game prices.
- I don't have any references, so I won't add it to the article, but I think the best way of putting it would be that Nintendo was the first console manufacturer to use the "licencing" process, whereby third parties would pay the first party for the right to make games on their system. Fairly groundbreaking, considering that's the model most consoles have been using ever since.69.222.55.140 18:41, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

DS: Developers' System or Dual-Screen?
I re-wrote the part about the name for the DS, putting more emphasis on the "Developers' System" name because Nintendo puts more emphasis on it in their explanation, as opposed to "Dual-Screen" which they merely state it can stand for. It was reverted, and I believe that a complaint was added onto my talk page about my alleged making changes that are still being discussed. I do not, however, see the discussion anywhere. If it exists but I cannot find it, could someone please direct me? NES blurb on top of the article
Is the blurb about the NES really necessary at the top of the article? Going on personal experiance myself, "Nintendo" in a casual, loose sense has always meant video games themselves e.g Let's play Nintendo. When it came to the NES it was always the NES, not "Nintendo". Also, the system is a classic and universally known like many other pop culture icons. I'd like to remove it but I'd like to know what others think. - Throw 05:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Do you mean the bit that says "For the 1985 gaming system, see Nintendo Entertainment System."? I'd agree with you. NES is mentioned in the TOC and later in the article. That line isn't needed. DanBeale 15:16, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- The article is actually about Nintendo as a company; the NES console is a different topic, so the 'See also' tag is relevant (at least to prevent confusion). 64.180.205.246 23:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Arrangement
Would you please arrange the consoles by release date? I think it would be better organized if layed out that way; the Wii should be at the bottom of the Consoles section, above it is the DS and DS Lite, and so on.

The statement on GameCube neglection is highly subjective and not written in an encyclopaedic tone, I suggest that is either removed or reworded. Ashnard talk 18:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- I just removed it before looking here. I suppose we could say something like "several games originally planned as GameCube exclusives, such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, were ported to the Wii," but really the GameCube section here should be more of an overview IMO, and I don't think it should surprise anyone that Nintendo's concentrating on the Wii now. Is Nintendo Gamecube really 2001 - Present?
I'd personally say the hype of the GameCube died a year or two ago. Should it still be listed as "present"?
- Lasse Havelund (p) (t) 16:49, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
- When the hype died doesn't matter. Nintendo is still manufacturing the GC [1] and games are still coming out for it[2]. 30K+ of them are being sold a month in the US.[3] Therefore its lifespan has not ended. -Ravedave 17:42, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Pong produced after 1975?
From the article: "Nintendo at this time saw how successful video games were and began to dabble in them. Its first step in that field was to secure the rights to distribute the Magnavox Odyssey in Japan, which it did in 1975. At the time, home video game consoles were extremely rare — even the seminal Atari PONG console had yet to be produced."
This is incorrect. Pong was produced in 1972, before the Magnavox Odyssey had even hit the market in the United States. And it spawned a whole plethora of clones and copies in the years 1973 and 1974, and many other arcade games which include Tank, Gotcha, Gran Trak 10, all video arcade titles released by Atari *after* Pong and *before* 1975. - That does not mean that crudely changing nearly every single verb covering the GameCube's history to the progressive tense makes for an accurate portrayal. It is misleading, and does not reflect any of the console companies' perspectives or goals regarding that generation of consoles. While the PS2 is not dead, either, it essentially won its associated console era. Even though PS2 consoles still outsell the PS3 and Xbox 360, Sony's success in the home console market is currently evaluated mainly on the performance on the PS3. Similarly, Nintendo's market performance in the home console market is referred to in terms of the Wii. Microsoft has moved on from the original Xbox, but that doesn't that future sales of still-produced GameCube will usurp the general second-place status from the Xbox in terms of the associated "console war". The competitive phase of the GameCube's lifespan is over. Dancter 20:15, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Nintendo focusing almost entirely on the Wii does not mean the GC is officially dead. It's still one of Nintendo's main system and a few games are still in development for it. The system still sells over 30,000 a month, and that alone means it's not officially dead. As long as this continues (and it probably will), Nintendo will continue the production of the GC and the GC's lifespan will also continue. As of right now, the GC is still living. Mega Man 5 20 June 2007
- I was careful to avoid any claim to the effect that GameCube is dead in that sense. That said, you still haven't addressed my particular arguments. Dancter 01:29, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well as for the Xbox and GameCube sales/production, the fact that the GC is still produced indeed does not mean it will outsell the Xbox. But, it's certainly possible that it could. Mega Man 5 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I think it would add interest to add the original code name of N64 "Project Reality" and the almost final US title of "Ultra 64", (the latter was even shown and verbally mentioned in voice-over format in the arcade games Killer Instinct and Cruisin' USA) as was done with the Dolphin for Gamecube and Revolution for the Wii.
Quit changing the GC's years
Nintendo still manufactures the GC and it's first-party games and has no plans to discontinue producton[4][5], Madden NFL 08 and Power Rangers: Super Legends are two upcoming games for the system [6][7], and 10,000+ GC's are sold a month in the U.S. The GC therefore has not been axed, and it's lifespan has been extended. Mega Man 5 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Look people. They ARE going to stop production in 2007(Ala this year). There's no offical games coming out for it (Minus Madden and(What a way to go out with a crud game)Power rangers) unless some production team decides to make it like a lot of games recently(Coming out on the Wii,Gamecube,Xbox,Xbox 360,PS3,PS2,DS,PSP,and That other portable),there's simply no reason to.There's not even an announced game unless they decide to for some reason make the games that were moved to the wii.TheK12 04:10, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

- Just jumping in to say that if something is still being made or sold or games are made for it, then technically, it's the Present. An edit war between 2007 and Present is stupid. For the time being, you can say Present. LN3000 03:35, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
TheK12, just because your Wal-Mart is only selling one row of GC games does not mean all Wal-Marts only have that many GC games. My local Wal-Mart has 3 rows of GC games, totalling about 26 GC games. Plus there's the handful of games they have in their bargain bin. Also, my local Future Shop and Toys R Us both have 40+ GC games. Just accept the fact that the GC's lifespan hasn't quite ended. Mega Man 5 20 August 2007 (UTC)
I think, quite simply, if the GameCube and/or its games are still selling in proper, non--eBay-type retail stores (both online and real life), then it's on the market, selling, and therefore still going until the present. Haipa Doragon (talk) 20:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

- Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
- We appreciate your interest in the Nintendo GameCube. We have released well
- over 500 Nintendo GameCube game titles since the system was released over five
- years ago. With the release of our latest home console, Wii, we are now working
- on bringing out new games for this system. Please note, however, that we
- haven't announced any immediate plans to discontinue the sale and distribution
- of the Nintendo GameCube, or the games available for it (in fact, Power Rangers:
- Super Legends is estimated for release this November). When new titles are
- announced for this system, we'll be sure to post the news to our website
- (www.nintendo.com), so please check back from time to time.
- I hope that this information helps you.

Nintendo Forum Page?
What happened to Nintendo Forum entry? If you try to look up Nintendo_Forum it redirects to this site. But there is no info about the site or reference. How would I go about resurrecting the Nintendo Forum page? If there is any entry for Camp Hyrule i don't see why there shouldn't be an entry for NSider Forums? I think it would be beneficial to those who use the forums. A place where ranks could be explained and such, and the history of the forums. --buzlink 21:14, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know the exact reason why the article was deleted, but I'm guessing it was deemed unencyclopedic. Stuff like ranks aren't something that should be listed on Wikipedia, and unless some really important events happened at NSider that affected things besides itself, it may or may not be considered worth having an article. Nintendo Becomes Japans 2nd Most Valuable Company
07:59 25Sep2007 RTRS-Nintendo becomes Japan's 2nd most valuable company
TOKYO, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd <7974.OS> roared past Canon Inc <7751.T> to become Japan's second most valuable company behind Toyota Motor Corp <7203.T>, driven by its hot-selling Wii game console and DS handheld player. Nintendo's Wii has so far outsold Sony's <6758.T> PlayStation 3 by a large margin since their launches late last year as Nintendo's strategy to expand the gaming population by offering easy-to-play but innovative games has proved a big success. Shares in Nintendo were up 2.6 percent at 58,900 yen in afternoon trade on Tuesday, bringing its market value to 8.34 trillion yen ($72.6 billion), surpassing Canon's market capitalisation of 8.20 trillion yen. It, however, is still just one-third of Toyota's 24 trillion yen. Toyota is the world's most profitable and valuable automaker. Nintendo shares have more than quadrupled over the past two years, initially boosted by strong demand for the DS, then by brisk sales of the Wii. It DOES affect Nintendo as there is technology being developed to help limit the time kids can use their video games.
Also, due to worries about kids getting to involved in the games that they do not know how to deal with real life, execpt as they respond in the games, there is also talk about placing resitrictions on what games are available, with vauge rumors of a kind of rating system parents can install. I just want to comment on this quote,
"According to Nintendo and a few websites, the name translated from Japanese to English means "We do what we can, the best that we can, and await the results", contrary to the popular belief that it means "Leave luck to heaven"."
Doesn't it mean the same thing, If you're leaving luck to heaven wouldn't it also mean that we do what we can, the best that we can, and await the results?
I really see no difference between what the company tells you and what the popular belief is saying. There is such a thing as a literal interpretation versus the proverbial interpretation...

Age of company
Nintendo should NOT be regarded as the "oldest video game company in the industry." True, Nintendo dates way back to its playing card days, but this is irrelevant to video games because video games did not become the company's foremost source of income until the 80s. Translation of the Name
I guess this counts as original research, but someone may be able to follow it up: the word "Nintendo" literally means "Trusting Heaven Hall", which I guess may be related to the founders' religious beliefs ("hall" as in the main building of a Buddhist temple). The "translations" given in the article, based on company websites and such, are pretty loose, more like slogans. If anyone can explain how "Hall" got in there, that would be helpful - to people interested in the company's history, if not to DS fanboys! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.17.154.153 (talk) 07:37, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't mean "Trusting Heaven Hall", because "Tendō" is one word, meaning "Heaven" or "Paradise". ムーカオズルール(Talk to Moo) 18:58, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Dō ("hall") is a suffix used for names of companies, art-names and buildings (see Japanese Daijirin dictionary entry 堂). Other examples include Shiseido, Juntendo and Kaiyodo. --Kusunose 19:35, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Eyeglasses?
Is it possible to add a quick mention of WHY THE HELL Nintendo also makes eyeglasses? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.95.209 (talk) 04:26, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Nasdaq?
Someone removed the nasdaq symbol for Nintendo. One of Nintendo's main market is the US. Motion to bring it back. --66.253.145.149 (talk) 14:59, 19 September 2008 (UTC) I just added the nasdaq symbol back--66.253.145.149 (talk) 01:23, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Emulation
Nintendo has a policy on Emulation, however Nintendo is portrayed in the article has having a very strict policy.
Those games which are illegal to emulate are ESA Protected and are unavaliable to download from most good ROM sites. Those which are not ESA Protected can be emulated (many high-profile games are not ESA Protected such as Zelda titles, many Mario tiles and many other titles)
I will edit the article if there is no dispute by 31st of October

Country divisions
Here is a list of Nintendo country divisions: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/distributors_international.jsp#haku
But which ones are divisions of Nintendo itself? Which ones should be listed in the infobox? WhisperToMe (talk) 18:47, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
"Leave luck to heaven"?
That's an extreme translation of "Nintendō". It means "Entrust it to Heaven" or something like that. Nin means "entrust; duty", and Tendō means "heaven; paradise". Although they translated it themselves, it still is rather stylized... ムーカオズルール(Talk to Moo) 18:56, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- The company's explanation indicates "ninten" is taken from a Japanese proverb "運を天に任せる" Un wo ten ni makaseru, literary, "leave luck to heaven". --Kusunose 19:33, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oh that's where it came from. moocowsrule(Talk to Moo) 22:15, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
A lot of changes should be made
This article is not very thorough. There is SO much more information about Nintendo and its storied past.
Some of my ideas would be to expand each section to include more information
Revise or remove the horribly written section about Nintendo's licensee guidelines from a decade or more ago (If it stays is should include emphasis on their current policies instead of being about policies circa 1993).
Miyamoto is rightfully listed in Key People, but his title is not "Game Developer". He holds a much more prominent role in Nintendo.
I think 1975-Present should be split into two key sections. A section about Nintendo that brings us up to the Gamecube era, and a section that starts mid-GameCube and brings us to the present that focuses on Iwata's new direction for the company and their blue-ocean/disruption business strategies for the DS and Wii.
Another possible section could detail their successes (the NES/reviving the Video Game Industry, The DS/Wii audience expansion, and sales/software successes) and failures (the Virtual Boy, The drop-out of third party support for the N64 and GCN).
This article could be so much more. It deals with the most storied video game company in the industry, yet talks WAY TOO briefly about each topic and skims over important aspects of Nintendo as a company (Disruption/Blue-Ocean/Audience Expansion/fall and eventual rise to former glory)
I hope I helped and I hope this article becomes what it should and could become. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.38.105.59 (talk) 04:45, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Right... well, there's no reason why you can't be bold and make such changes yourself, but make sure you're familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, primarily WP:RS, WP:OR and WP:NPOV, first, especially before you make any big edits or additions. Content Guidelines
"One known side effect of this policy was the Sega Genesis version of Mortal Kombat selling over double the number of the Nintendo's Super NES version, mainly because Nintendo had forced publisher Acclaim to recolor the red blood to look like white sweat and replace some of the more gory attacks in its release of the game, unlike Sega, which allowed the selling points of blood and gore to remain in the Genesis version (though the Genesis version of the game required a code to unlock the gore)."
Not known and also misleading as it suggests that all SNES owners were also Genesis/Mega Drive owners and therefore purposefully chose the Genesis version over the SNES version. That just isn't true unless you can back this up with some hard facts.
