Which one?

[edit]

There are several places in Sierra Leone called Njala, and this article does not make it clear which one is meant here, unless the coördinates are to be taken as authoritative. This would make it the one near the river Pampana. This, however, flies in the face of the distance east of Freetown at which the town supposedly lies (125 miles, which I metricated to 200 km). The distance for this place is more like 125 km. I am currently composing a map for Sierra Leone's cities and towns, and would appreciate it if my sources were a bit more accurate. For now, though, I shall plot the Njala near the river Pampana on my map and simply hope that I've got it right.

By the way, an article about the Pampana would be nice. I know nothing about it. Anyone......?

Take care with Wikipedia distances for places in Sierra Leone. Several editors have been playing games with the distances, and have entered false information for some unknown purpose. There is also the complication that some distances are "as the crow flies" and some are "as measured along roads".
When you have completed your map, Wikipedia would benefit if you have time to check the distances quoted in the various Sierra Leone articles.
If you haven't already used it, Google Earth might help with your map. Dbfirs 08:56, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
