History section

[edit]

As noted in my edit summary, in this edit I removed the History section added on 2 December 2017. It was taken without attribution from the German Wikipedia article (a copyright violation) and was an inaccurate and almost incomprehensibly bad translation. It also started with the wartime damage, providing no information on the original construction of the station, and without this context much of it was even harder to understand. The German article provides a detailed history of the station, but appears to rest entirely on the book we cite, which I have been unable to obtain. This makes translating the section properly a risky proposition, since WP:V would not be met and the translation itself would have to be done on faith, except in the case of an editor who can get access to the book. Some years ago, I worked on a number of Berlin U-Bahn stations, and through the German articles was able to use one or a couple of websites with histories of the lines and stations and old photographs. From the external links on the German article, I see it (or one of the two) was www.berlineruntergrundbahn.de; the site now seems to be gone (and in any case the German article points to the wrong station for some reason), but here is Nollendorfplatz at the Wayback Machine. Here is its Berlin landmark listing, which I'm going to go ahead and add to our article. If anyone has any strong feelings about whether I should try to generate a new history section using what I can get hold of—or anyone who has access to a copy of the book and wants to do so!—please ping me or leave a message on my talk. Adding for myself or someone else who wants to write up the history: that was just the U1 station. Archived versions of U2; U3 (pictures only); U4 (appears to be identical text to U1). Yngvadottir (talk) 13:13, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
