Previous page history

[edit]

This page was originally copied from Nome (administrative division) (now Nome (subnational entity) without preserving the page history.  Andreas  (T) 18:07, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

@AndreasJS: I have belatedly merged the original page history up to 1 September 2004 from Nome (subnational entity). – Fayenatic London 19:16, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Crocodilopolis

[edit]

The list of nomes gives the capital of the 21st nome of Upper Egypt as Crocodilopolis, which is in the Fayyum, west of the Nile valley proper. The map shows the 21st nome as being entirely east of the Nile. What gives?

Atef-Khent and Atef-Pehu

[edit]

The same Egyptian name is listed for the 13th and the 20th nome of Upper Egypt, but the translations are different. The same applies to the 14th and the 21st nome. Are there someone out there who can correct this? --Klausok 06:19, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chart

[edit]

The list of nomes seems to draw on different sources, and thus has conflicting information in it. Because the configuration of nomes changed over time, different ancient authors enumerate the nomes differently. Potential sources are in Bagnall (cited in article), Egypt Under the Pharaohs: A History Derived Entirely from the Monuments, Heinrich Karl Brugsch, Hand-book for travellers in Egypt, Sir John Gardner Wilkinson, as well as what's available in Strabo, etc. The chart should be standardized according to one of these sources, and it should be cited. Anyone interested? If not, I will do it.HippomenesLove (talk) 20:10, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here's another source (An Archaic Dictionary, etc.) and it lists a nome I don't see in this chart, on Lake Mariout. (pg 317) Level C (talk) 06:06, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

List of nomes

[edit]

In this informative article we find a table with al the essential info on the nomes, but in some cases there are very long list of what apear to be nonsence names; most notably in nome 6 of Epper-Egypt. Googled some of these names and this article is their only reference, they are nowhere else mentioned and als not found in google maps. Seems something has gone wrong here, can somebody adjust this (tried it myself but I lose the table structure when trying to edit which makes things rather difficult).
