Artist ethnicity/nationality/origin[edit]

There should be some sort of standard about how we designate artists ethnicity/nationality/Origins. According to APA guidelines if you disignate one person's race/nationality you should do it across the board. Norman Lewis cant be "an African-American Artist...." if Edward Hopper is just "a prominent American realist painter and printmaker..." 160.111.254.17 (talk) 17:50, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Kassie (Research Asst. @ NMAAHC)[reply]

I am not sure what this comment was specifically in reference too, it needed more development/details. Seeing that it is an open source project, sometimes there are variances. It's not uncommon to feature a person's ethnicity in the intro on Wikipedia. If you look at MOS:LEAD, it mentions that it should give the basics in the lead statement and since race and ethnicity played a role throughout Lewis' life (and that did not happen for Edward Hopper) it makes sense it would be added only for Lewis and not Hopper. I am happy to discuss this further here, if anyone is interested. Jooojay (talk) 02:04, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Abstract Resistance[edit]

I wonder how this term has not found its place in this wiki. Norman's whole life went into the depiction of black resistance in his art. No wonder, it took years for people to recognize and appreciate his art. I would like the interest and inputs of Black Art Historians on this matter.
