A lot of people do. This is mentioned in the main Astronaut article. If the way to differentiate between the two terms is in the origin of the space vehicle the person traveled on, then yes, he is indeed the first "American cosmonaut." Jsc1973 (talk) 12:43, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
