Population question

[edit]

The article says: North Philadelphia, depending on how it is defined, has roughly 200,000 people, is around 65% African-American, 30% Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican American), 15% Asian (mostly Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese) mainly in the area of Olney, and 5% non-Hispanic white.something doesn't add up here -- 65 + 30 + 15 + 5 = 115. I know that Hispanic can conclude people of any race, according to the census bureau's definitions -- but I find it hard to believe that half the Hispanic people in North Philly are also African-American or Asian. You basically have to discount the Hispanic number from the total. Assuming that the numbers are census numbers, the Hispanic percentage is not included in the total percentage, but is a percentage separate form the total, it's weird but take a look at an article on a small town say like Royersford, Pennsylvania, and look under the demographics section, and you'll see what i am talking about. Basically the sentence needs to be reworded somehow, so it doesn't look like the Hispanic percentage is included in the total racial percentage breakdown. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 06:18, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Olney and Oak Lane

[edit]

Straight up, Olney/Oak Lane are Northwest Philadelphia.

"The Oak Lane neighborhoods and Olney are sometimes considered to be separate from North Philadelphia entirely because of their unique architecture, culture and differing patterns of development." 76.112.180.49 (talk) 03:39, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I dont think he has to reword what he wrote, i actually live in olney & grew up in the olney section of philadelphia & what he said its just about right.
