Untitled
[edit]I've done quite a bit of cropping, and added links, although many don't actually direct to the relevant people (e.g. Matthew Ryan, Frank Stanton, Peter Jones!). If somebody can correct this, please do!
Added coaches section, will also write stub articles on promiment players to be expanded later --Cyclone James 05:51, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Added more depth to the Cowboys history but tried to make it precise as possible to not clutter web page. Crossing my fingers here I havent spent all night cleaning the site to only have it all removed tomorrow. I believe it is easier to read then ever and I have done my best to follow the guidlines to wiki. --Bradley O'Neill 09:28, 12 April 2006.]--
- Adding more information to the Cowboys history by adding a summary on each season. Also added links onto players names, clubs and stadium venues.Bradley1956 23:31, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Added sponsors section to site. Bradley1956 01:19, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Tidy up
[edit]This article is once again untidy. Areas that require attention are:
- Excessive whitespace
- Biased and emotive language
- Informal language (and excessive exclamation marks)
There is a wealth of information in this article, which is a good thing, but in addition to the problem with the writing standard, there is a problem with the fact that the sources for this information are not cited. For the time being I have slapped a citation tag at the top, and put some citation references through the article. As I do not have access to whatever sources the most recent author of this article has been using, I will remove unsourced material if citations are not provided.--dan, dan and dan 02:16, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Tidied Up
[edit]Cleaned up the biased information and removed exclamation marks along with the clean white spaces that made the page easier to read Bradley1956 11:15, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Merged
[edit]Merged Cowboys 1996 with article North Queensland Cowboys. It would be wise to delete Cowboys 1996 as it is now an unused source. Bradley1956 21:44, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Added Uniforms to the article. Bradley1956 01:53, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Multiple link to other pages
[edit]WP:CONTEXT dictates that wherever plausible there should only be one link to any other wikipedia page. I have gone through a little to keep the page to this policy, as the page looks and reads better, especially the source code, when it is done properly. Ansell 11:27, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Crappy page
[edit]This page looks like it was written by a school kid! Absolutely terrible! I followed a couple of the links, and it looks like whatever spotty nosed little freak took the time to write this nonsense has essentially paraphrased it from the club's official website. If no-one takes the the time to fix this tosh, I will have to cut it substantially (it is way too long!).
ADDRESSING CRAPPY
[edit]If someone is game to write as a critic of someone elses work then they should at least have the f`in guts to at least place their tilda at the end of their discussion. It appears that this toffy nosed critic doesn't even understand the rules associated with Wikipedia. I also thought that the idea of Wikipedia in the very first place was that ANYONE can write ANYTHING they want to on WIKIPEDIA. Somewhere along the line it appears that if SOMEONE writes TO MUCH about ANYTHING on wikipedia they get their ball s taken away and everyone goes willy nilly deleting articles all over the shop. I think all critics need to have a good long hard look at the original concept of wikipedia and that is ANYONE can write ANYTHING.
- I think that whoever wrote the "crappy" comment was a bit harsh, but there are some far points. The article is fairly informal. (I also note that the above comment doesn't leave a name either.) I have taken the civilised step of adding this article to the Wikipedia cleanup list. hopefully this will avert a flame war between whoever the above two people are. :) --dan, dan and dan 09:52, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- CommentYour going to have to cut down the images; currently there are like 11 images that are fair-use, at a maxium, there could be like four or five on this page. Also, Im assuming you created the jerseys yeah? Its fine to release them into public domain, but Im not sure you can create a PD image that has copyright material in it (ie. superleague logo). You cant have stuff like "season highs:" etc, its not really encyclopedic. You should make an effort to turn it into prose as well. There is a lot of good info here, there are some issues to sort out. Cvene64 12:38, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Hey Bradley, you have done some great work on NQC. You should try to make it a feature article, which means it represents the best work of Wikipedia and will be featured on the main page. Click the link above and here for more details. Thanks GizzaChat © 11:48, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- Also, do want to join WP:RL, it is the Rugby league "Wikiproject," where Rugby league fans discuss how to improve articles on teams, comps and players together. Hope you join! GizzaChat © 11:51, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Cleaning History
[edit]Cleaned up alot of the ramble that was associated in the History section. It is not perfect yet but it is a step in the right direction. Would be more then happy if people want to help out. I am going to add the rugby league stub to the bottom for others to interact too.
Team of the decade
[edit]Is this really appropriate? Why that decade and not others? Tim Fellows 05:29, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Team of the decade was not made up!. The Cowboys released their team of the decade to celebrate their 10th anniversary. The North Queensland Cowboys are not 20 years old yet to have a second team of the decade! either. It is a part of the North Queensland Cowboys history. And that is why it is in the article!. [Bradley1956 09:59, 21 May 2006 (UTC)]
- Perhaps that should be explained. It looks odd otherwise. Tim Fellows 11:37, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Finished reorganisation
[edit]Over the past couple of days I have copyedited the text in the main section, and reorganised the data in the records and stats section so that it now runs more logically. I have also removed a couple of stats that were demonstrably wrong. Feedback is welcomed.--dan, dan and dan 11:36, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Errors in 2000 to 2004 Section
[edit]Some of the info in the section 2000 to 2004 is incorrect. For example Sheens was sacked late season and assistant coach Hurst took over, than the following season Hurst was sacked after four losses (not Sheens) and Murray came in.
Also Glen Morrison was not recruited in 2004 with Norton and Rauhihi, infact 2004 was his final season at the Cowboys.
Any mind if I fix it, with approipiate links etc.?--81.144.244.194 15:49, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Lucas
Sleve Sponsor
[edit]Correct me if I'm wrong Bradley, but did the National Heart Foundation (or something like that) take over Q.L.D. Group as the sleeve sponsor in late 2006? I remember seeing a logo ironed on over the Q.L.D. one Steeden 00:33, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Robin Williams
[edit]His article says that he's a fan of the NQ Cowboys. Maybe worth a mention in this article? Perhaps a Trivia section or something?--Jeff79 17:07, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- Suggest we find a source for that first. That section reads like an ill thought out addition (vandalism or not, it's certainly suspicious). Better safe then sorry, IMHO. Blackjack4124 13:26, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Rep Players?
[edit]Love the tidyup that has gone on here! But what happened to the Cowboys rep players??? That is important to be in the web article.[[]]
Fair use rationale for Image:Nqcowboys.png
[edit]Image:Nqcowboys.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:29, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Squad positions
[edit]I'm assuming these would come from one of two sources - team sheets (ie -where they actually play); or where the NQC say their primary position is. Having seen a few Cowboys games (living with a rabid fan), I'd question whether Sione Faumuina (who is unlikely to play much more this season) is really a prop forward. The official NQC website says 'utility'; if we don't use UT as a position, we'd need to look up team lineups. If my recollection is correct, he'll usually show up as an 11, 12 or 13 (in the second row/lock positions). 121.208.196.161 12:37, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't personally choose the positions listed on the page, however, you can change them if you like if you think they are wrong. Check out this page and scroll down until you see a player list on the middle/right hand side of the page. If you click the player names a page comes up with a list of the games they played this season with their starting positions. Sione Faumuina hasn't started as a prop all season, but is normally either a bench or lock forward. mdmanser 12:55, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Thurston and Webb don't belong in 10 Year Anniversary Team
[edit]"In 2004, the North Queensland Cowboys conducted a poll asking fans to vote on the best players who ever wore Cowboy colours. After polling had finished the club released the overall best team to celebrate the team's 10th anniversary."
Johnathon Thurston joined the Cowboys in 2005. Why has he been included in this team? This team was selected in 2004 and therefore should reflect that fact. The fact that he is currently the world's best player does not change anything that happened before he joined the club. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.222.4.183 (talk) 15:17, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Today I edited the team so that Laurie Spina was in the side - as he rightly was selected back in 2004. Not even six hours later, somebody has reverted the article back to Thurston. Thurston wasn't even at the Cowboys in 2004! Get it right people! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.186.23.111 (talk) 14:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Once again it has been changed back to Thurston? Why? Don't we want to be accurate? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.186.23.111 (talk) 05:59, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- My apologies, on this occasion that was me not checking the edit properly. I thought someone had changed the current team. Sorry. ~ Florrie • talk • 06:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've just been looking for a source for the Team of the Decade and all I can find is references on a message board - [1]. Nothing comes up with a search at the Townsville Bulletin, the Cowboys website or at Highbeam. It'd be good to qualify the section with a reference. ~ Florrie • talk • 06:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
And come to think of it - Carl Webb doesn't belong there either! He joined in 2005, a full year AFTER the first decade team had been chosen. I think someone has been a little too precious with rewriting history here, definately not a Wikipedia attribute. Disappointing.
- You might discuss re-labelling that section from Notable Players to 1995–2004 Team of the Decade so there is no confusion. ~ Florrie • talk • 08:02, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Leagues Club
[edit]Does anyone remember when the Cowboys Leagues club in the Townsville CBD was completed? Might be worth inserting a mention under the relevant timeframe of the history section.--Jeff79 (talk) 03:05, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure when it was completed but cowboysleaguesclub.com.au says that it actually started trading on 27 June 2001 if that helps. 220.245.107.141 (talk) 13:13, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism
[edit]- This page has copped quite a bit of vandalism lately. Im sick of reverting edits so I have semi protected this page. Ssiww (talk) 04:27, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Unsourced claims
[edit]Overall I think it's a good page but it still looks like it was written by a fan (which it probably was). Things like Paul Simpkins have a Sydney bias (according to who?) and Sam Faust being a brilliant replacement for Luke O'Donnell. There are POV and probably can't be backed up with a source. Could probably do with a bit more talk about the team getting into the comp in the first place. Oh a sorry about the user ID. It isn't aimed at you guys!
