WP:PTOPIC by long-term significance and usage. A notch, by its dictionary definition and common usage, is a V-shaped or U-shaped indentation. feminist (talk) 13:38, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Tentative oppose While the proposed topic is the obvious primary dictionary meaning, we are, of course, not a dictionary, and without any evidence to the contrary I'm not sure if there is a clear primary intended topic here for someone who chooses to search the term.--Yaksar (let's chat) 23:19, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • We are an encyclopedia, thus "notch" should mainly refer to its encyclopedic meaning. feminist (talk) 03:08, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • One would hope that all pages we have by the name would be encyclopedic!--Yaksar (let's chat) 18:49, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – a primarytopic grab for a dictionary entry with so many uses makes little sense. Dicklyon (talk) 03:21, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support clear primary topic of the term by historical importance. Notches have been made for thousands of years. bd2412 T 15:44, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support A basic concept in the development of humanity and civilization should take precedence over a rich alt-right game developer. This is quite a clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 10:52, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Wait, @notch is considered alt-right now? feminist (talk) 12:36, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'll just leave this here. He doesn't actually identify as an alt-right, but well, I'll let you be the judge. He claimed there was an alt-left so clearly he supports a great deal of alt-right talking points and beliefs.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 20:15, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC/WP:NOTDICT. Notch proteins (Notch 1, &c.) of Notch signaling pathway fame are all called "notch" and are at least as encyclopedically important as a the "engineering" topic. —  AjaxSmack  02:25, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • They are only partial title matches, however. In addition, their names derived from notch (engineering) or at least biological structures that resembled a notch.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 20:25, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
