Music Video Cut

[edit]

Her cut spells numb, that's a big cut! She MUST be emo.

Music Video story?

[edit]

Does the music video have a plot? There's a main character, a girl, and there's a hint of some plot, but perhaps someone could put it into words? Kareeser|Talk! 22:42, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, its about a girl, who likes art (at the beging it shows her drawing and getting told off by the teacher) she has no friends, because every one dosen't like her. (when she sits down and the rest walk away). Her parents give her crap, and she is very lonley. So she takes her fustration out on art. Oh, and that bit with her running into were LP were playing, but they are not there except the Intruments, thats just somthing i dont understand. --210.54.108.244 21:22, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The music video's 'plot' is about the girl, as mentioned, who likes art and apparently aspires to be a professional artist (by the art studio she's apparently set up in her house). However, her aspirations are apparently quite far from the contemporary, making her unpopular and embarassing to be around by other people. Both her teachers and her parents want her to give up her dreams, put away her art tools, and try something more linear and acceptable in society, a prospect she vehemently opposes. She uses her art as a medium to express her rage at the constant pressure of her peers (or, in a fit of nervous breakdown, goes ballistic on a piece of art she was working on, hence ruining it and unconsciously giving in to said pressure). The part about her running into the church where Linkin Park was playing could be her hearing the play as she went for a walk to cool her head, and - hearing the music (as it's a form of art) - believes she could find a kindred spirit in the band, but they vanish before she gets there. Basically, it's a tale of teen rebellion and rejecting societal norms to walk the less-beaten path in life, instead of giving into peer pressure and let others tell you what you should be and do and think.
  • New to editing here so sorry if this isn't formatted correctly. Just wanted to mention that there is no father in the video. The girl is being raised by a single mom. That seems noteworthy since the social science data is very clear about the elevated risk factors for kids raised in fatherless homes (depression, loneliness, trouble in school, etc). Perhaps she feels "caught in the undertow" of her mother's choice to live without the dad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catholicjen (talkcontribs) 19:45, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

U2 Reference

[edit]

"Prior to the single by Linkin Park, the song name had been used by U2 on the album Zooropa." Why is the fact that U2 had a song called Numb pertain to the article? --70.129.165.62 18:47, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed; song titles are always repeated. -Unknownwarrior33 02:27, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Song used for TNA wrestling videos

[edit]

I've noticed on TNA pay per views that an instrumental version of the song is used. Anyone want to look into that?

Lyrics have been removed

[edit]

I removed the section for the lyrics because they are most llkely copyrighted by either the band or the record label. Please don't put them back. Thanks.--CJ King 23:48, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Backwards Played story

[edit]

Why does no one here notice that when playing the song backwards, you hear just another song backmasked in it?008'/,treme 19:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, but I've heard it, and it's probably worth noting. If I ever meet Linkin Park, I will ask. Bentu (talk) 02:48, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Evanescence Cover

[edit]

Did Evanescence really cover LP's Numb? I never heard of that cover. Angel of the Will 16:11, 18 July 2007

Go to LimeWire or a P2P Network and Search Numb Linkin Park Cover or just Linkin Park Cover. You'll find it. Lpfan4eva1990 01:47, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IT'S NOT NU METAL

[edit]

Why consider this nu metal, and not consider What I've Done nu metal? Answer: because it's not nu metal. It's alternative rock, and maybe nu metal is a sub-genre.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.244.30.200 (talk) 11:29, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

True. There's no rapping, so why not change nu metal to alternative metal? Dude00007, Ph. D., Sc. D. (talk) 23:20, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not all nu metal contains rapping. Furthermore, we preferably go by what reliable sources say, and sources like this categorize it a nu metal song, while this supports both nu metal and alternative rock. If you can find a reliable source for alternative metal though, feel free to add it (I did a brief search and didn't find any). Kokoro20 (talk) 10:07, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So, someone has considered this song a "gothic rock" song

[edit]

It was in the infobox.

I mean, seriously?

Obviously, when I saw that, I have been careful to remove that (bad) joke. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.161.159.250 (talk) 19:24, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for "music video" section

[edit]

The entire music video section seems to be sparsely cited. I didn't want to put citation needed tags everywhere, so I just placed one at the end of the section (and after a very bold claim), but really, most of the section is lacking in sources. Hickland (talk) 23:56, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Third Oldest?

[edit]

I'm a bit confused as to the line that states the song is the "Third Oldest" to get 1 billion views. There's two ways of reading this and both are incorrect. One is by Upload date - both November Rain and Bohemian Rhapsody were uploaded after Numb. The other is by production date, but there are more songs older than Numb that have now hit 1 billion (Take on Me, Sweet Child of Mine and Smells Like Teen Spirit). Is this trying to say something else or is just outdated information? I guess it's probably wanting to say "At the time it hit 1 billion views, it was the third oldest music video to achieve this milestone" ? Jedi Master Bra'tac (talk) 10:28, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
