The image shown as the "alternate cover" (Stevens'photo surrounded by the black border) was actually part of the package for the 1975 LP. The record itself was packaged in a cardboard sleeve with Steven's photo, and when you removed it from the rest of the album cover, it exposed the photo of the Trifid Nebula.
