Dead reference[edit]

The reference to <ref name = Nutbrook>{{cite web|url=http://www.canals.btinternet.co.uk/canals/nutbrook.htm|author=P. Hardcastle|title=Nutbrook Canal}}</ref> which appears as: P. Hardcastle. "Nutbrook Canal". is broken, so I am intending to remove it, unless someone knows where it has moved to. Bob1960evens (talk) 09:53, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Hardcastle's "Roots and Routes" has been retired (according to www.canals.com) A number of the pages have been "lifted" by others to use on their own sites, but most of it is simply gone. The referenced page can still be retrieved from the wayback machine, in its final archived version here. We could just update the ref to point to the archived version. Please note that some of the phrases in this article are the same as [www.ukcanals.net/nutbrook.html here]. e.g. "The bridge over which the railway crossed is notable for having been damaged during a bombing raid by German" This is a fine article but it must avoid any possible interpretation (even in part) of copyright infringement. Has the author of the ukcanals article lifted it from Wikipedia. It isn't unknown. I have occasionally found fragments or whole articles of mine purloined by other websites. Some poor soul has to go through every amendment in the history checking the dates, then challenging ukcanalsChevin (talk) 09:19, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the item referring to the airship bombing, if the ukcanals site has the same line then they copied it from here. I obtained the information from the Great Northern Railways book cited not ukcanals, and reported it in my own words. Tina Cordon (talk) 10:17, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
