Nymphaea nouchaliBlue Lotus – per WP:COMMONNAME PHEONIXTER 05:42, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Nymphaea caerulea actually seems to be a problem. This database states that it is a variety of N. nouchali. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 11:09, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

National flower of Bangladesh

[edit]

I've removed a statement that the national flower of Bangladesh is a whitish-coloured form of N. nouchali because the citation that was given, a news article about the Sri Lankan national flower, seems not to be a very good reference for this particular statement. The Sri Lankan flower is usually shown as a rich purple flower that apparently belongs to a different species. It might be natural in the context of that purple flower to refer to the common blue form that grows wild throughout Bangladesh as "whitish". In any case, the constitution of Bangladesh specifies only the species and not the colour. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 12:32, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Shapla

[edit]

Shapla has at times been redirected to this page, yet the term does not appear anywhere in this article. So, two questions: 1) is this term actually used in English-language sources for the flower, or only in other languages and 2) either way, is it worth mentioning this other name in the lead? -- Fyrael (talk) 15:27, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's also worth mentioning that a number of other articles have previously or still do use "Shapla" in the context of the national flower of Bangladesh. It could just be editors who are used to the term from their native language though and didn't think twice about it. -- Fyrael (talk) 15:33, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
