The company's name

[edit]

The original name of the company, ÖMV, is an abbreviation for "Österreichische Mineralölverwaltung" (Austrian mineral oil authority). The phrase used in the article, "Österreicher mit Verantwortung" (responsible Austrians) is just an old TV ad slogan trying to achieve a positive connotation. The referenced literture doesn't mention the real meaning of the name OMV, just the slogan without explanation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drsweeny (talkcontribs) 12:03, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I looked up my source and it clearly states what I wrote, so this otherwise very interesting book about multinational companies contained the mistake. Thanks for the correction. Squash Racket 18:12, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies bias

[edit]

The Controversies section is worded such that it clearly violates the NPOV policy of wikipedia. Reword to eliminate the bias. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jason Quinn (talkcontribs) 23:39, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this section does not have a neutral point of view. It's an important topic, but shouldn't take up a third of the page, either - the recent takeover battle with MOL is probably almost as important, but is hardly mentioned. Actually, the whole page is not well written, the plans for the future seem to have been lifted from a Press Release; the Avanti logo isn't really explained; the balance of the page between activities is poor, sadly it's the sort of page that gives Wikipedia a bad name Petrolmaps (talk) 12:43, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I made some cleanup and re-arrangement of this article. Hope the Controversy section is more balanced right now. Beagel (talk) 15:47, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"concerning turnover"?

[edit]

The lead contans the phrase: "It is Austria's largest listed industrial company (concerning turnover)..." What does "turnover" mean here? I assume that this is translated from German, but it does not make much sense to this English speaker. Plazak (talk) 14:11, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Turnover is commonly used in British English, amongst other forms, as a synonym for revenue. Gr1st (talk) 19:25, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Map

[edit]

I updated the map (sorry, didn't sign in). It's more accurate than the old one. The old one was incorrect. This one is directly from the OMV itself.
