GA Review

[edit]

Basically, this article reads like somebody's highschool report, and not necessarily one that would earn a good grade there. The text is staccato and choppy, the tone does not match that of our better articles, and it's really not that informative. Don't be discouraged though, a lot of pages don't pass GAN on their first try. Please expand the page so that you have more to say, tighten up the text, and try again. Consulting the Obesity article may be useful for inspiration, since it's a GA at present. --erachima talk 21:39, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Concern with the figures quoted in the first paragraph

[edit]

The figures given by WHO (World Health Organization) do not seem consistent with the data given by other recent studies or any other source. There should be some warning about it. A recent study done by EuroStats (published 20th October 2016) shows that 15.3% of french adults are obese (as opposed to 23.9% in the article), which is significantly less than Germany and slightly less than the European Union in general. Another source, BEH in French shows that for adult over 30 and under 69 the obesity rate is 15.8% for men and 15.6% for women. This is slightly above before mentioned statistics but remain coherent as the group controlled is slightly different (adults below 30 or above 69 were not considered in this study).

The study linked in the first paragraph led to studies which focused on children. When looking on the interactive map we see that the interval of values was [17_30.9%] which is a very wide interval, so big in fact one can wonder how many people were actually tested. Italy is shown with almost 20% obesity prevalence ... whereas other studies put it at barely above 11%. So again I do strongly believe the statistics given by WHO in this instance should come with warnings and/or be contextualized by quoting the other studies on this topic.

NB: The "Statistics" paragraph is not up to date. The EU in the world 2016, Eurostats 2016 edition page 51. The estimates are now that over half of the french adult population is overweight (BMI > 25), also given in the BEH link quoted above.

The WHO figures are indeed totally wrong. Should be removed. Remitheb (talk) 07:24, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
