Intensity

[edit]

I've full-protected this page from editing due to an edit war. Please discuss the intensity of the storm on the talk page. It is of note that editors have violated 3RR, so please do be careful. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:33, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Julian... I ain't had a look at this article for a while... User:Itfc+canes=me Talk Contributions 10:20, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ive just had a look at the Edit war myself and this is the situation the Ip Address is stating that the Peak winds were 30 knots with a central pressure of 1003 hPa. This is the Operational intensity. Within their Tropical Cyclone Report the NHC revised this peak intensity to 25 knots (30 mph) and 1004 hPa. So since we on wikipedia go for the tropical cyclone report as it contains the best track data so thus peak winds were 25 knots (30 mph) and 1004 hPa.Jason Rees (talk) 21:17, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This image is too off centered the center is near the edge, i might crop it slightly and merge with the one south of the storm. Hurricane Typhoon Cyclone 23:00, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This image is better. Could you upload it please? Cyclonebiskit 23:16, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect, do you think a visible one is better or a colored (and merged) one is better (same resolution and size). Hurricane Typhoon Cyclone 23:52, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the original image is better, actually. The one suggested by Cyclonebiskit hardly resembles a tropical cyclone. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually the same image. The one I gave the link for is centered but in black & white :P Cyclonebiskit 02:33, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The difference is it takes time to crop and merge with very large file. Hurricane Typhoon Cyclone 03:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do I need to crop more? Hurricane Typhoon Cyclone 03:09, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move?

[edit]

So the NHC says...

"An Agence France-Presse (AFP) media report from 19 October indicates that 16 people lost their lives in Central America due to flooding from heavy rains produced in part by Tropical Depression Sixteen. The media report lists seven deaths in Costa Rica, four in Nicaragua, three in Honduras, and one each in El Salvador and Guatemala. However, the deaths in Costa Rica were likely the result of flooding rainfall that can be attributed to the disturbance from which the depression formed"

Clearly, the depression was part of a larger event, which is sadly common in Central America. ReliefWeb likewise calls it just a "flood". Then again, a report clearly refers to the depression. For how short-lived the depression was and yet how long-lasting the flooding was, it might make more sense for it to be treated as a flood article, but the clear relation to the depression (not to mention some sources do explicitly mention it) warrants having a discussion. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 05:44, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hurricanehink, I will be reviewing and assessing this article against the Good Article criteria. There are only a few issues, so overall, you did a great job!

  • "Floods in Costa Rica damaged 32 ridges and roads in 174 locations" – Ridges?
  • For the damage tolls, are the conversions to USD mentioned? If not, leave a note about where conversions can be made.
  • "The rains followed Tropical Storm Arthur striking the country in May, and a bridge rebuilt after Arthur was again flooded." - Kinda of oddly worded. The first part seems to suggest that Tropical Storm Arthur was related to the flooding. The second part needs to be reworded somehow.
  • "Around the time when the NHC began issuing advisories, officials issued" - Wait, what is NHC? Also, state when the advisories began.
  • "When the NHC began issuing advisories on the depression, the agency anticipated the depression would intensify into a strong tropical storm" - This seems a little redundant because, (1. You already stated something else when the NHC began advisories; and (2. Wouldn't that be why tropical storm warnings were issued for northern Honduras and Belize?
  • "visited several towns,[62] provdiing help to 3,000 people" - Typo
  • "of assistance, including to provide shelter in Honduras and rebuilding schools." - "including to provide" ---> "including providing"
  • "In November, weeks after the tropical depression struck Honduras, Tropical Storm Paloma formed in the western Caribbean and caused additional rainfall in the region.[66]" - Is this supposed to be in the Aftermath?
