Unresolved Issues

[edit]
  • What work did he corrupt?
  • Who does not know about him?
  • How will it effect our work?
  • How should we consider the work of historian who used his work?
  • Taylor apparently did do some real work(circa 1860). How do we find the "real work" and not the stuff he made up?

What is a Costanoan/Ohlone?

[edit]
  • Why did previous historian include Miwok as Costanoan?
    • Which historian, when and what did they say ?
Okay this assertion is misleading, it infers a historian said Miwok were Ohlone. My research is that Ohone extended politically to the Esslen but not the Miwok and this is the political reason: The Esselen from Hokan-language were added in the Salinas region, so that they could get tribal status from BIA because Kroeber said they were extinct, but they kept records to prove they are joining Costenoans in this century to be qualified for BIA only (they are late joiners). Miwok already have tribal status under BIA so do not need to "join" the larger area group --per reading tonight on BIA politics. 10/25 Also Kroeber says Miwok is a different group, look at his maps. 10/30Goldenrowley 21:45, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • What allowances should we make?
Clarify. I do not understand the concern. 10/30/06

* When can we claim a valid lose of culture? Can we?

Yes when languages go extinct, there is a HUGE loss of culture. Article deals with this already. 10/30/06

Ohlone in English Language

[edit]

Words - Wiktionary says the English word Abalone comes from the Ohlone ... isn't that interesting?

abalone and Answers.com mentions 'Rumsen' as the origin. BruceHallman 18:48, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Its a difficult claim to make as the abalone was found before the Ohlone. Writings from Baja California Missionization have notes about the shellfish. Would you like a citation? --meatclerk 06:43, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
There are good verifiable sources stating that the etymology of the word abalone comes from Rumsen word aluan.
A list of words contributed to the English language would be an interesting idea, I suggest save the idea for later. Goldenrowley 16:40, 1 December 2006 (UTC) (that is, after we finish this cleanup)
Yes, Its a good idea to save it for later. Goldenrowley can you add to 'Unresolved'? TIA --meatclerk 06:34, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
