Updating Okan International University

[edit]

Hello Mdcora -- I will not remove the PROD tag from the Okan article. Please let me please explain why. The only page you have ever edited is Okan. Your username is Mdcora, which is likely an abbreviation of Michael D. Cora, Academic Director of Okan International University. That means, by Wikipedia rules, that you have a conflict of interest (COI). That is, by itself, enough to get the page deleted. Silly you say? Author Philip Roth was unqualified to correct something on a page about him. He had to get a hold of his friends at The New Yorker to get them to write about him and the error. Then, there was a suitable reference on which to base the correction and a citation to back it up. Someone else needs to update your page. And you aren't supposed to solicit them.

Here is advice to you about Notability (WP:GNG). There are several camps within Wikipedia. Sports fans can get any athlete an article. One professional game or match and the person is notable. The people who look at schools are very liberal. The standards for notability of a school are not strict. Your page will likely slide because you are a school. Where businesses are concerned, the editors are skeptical and cynical. They assume that new pages are promotional. The standard is high. You'll need citations from the press, and not simply press releases lazily made into newspaper articles. Even with a good set of references, a neutral tone, and quality writing by strangers, some will want to delete the article for sport.

I would volunteer to write for you, but I eliminated myself from the running. Simply by responding to you with advice, I have demonstrated that I am no longer without bias. This whole thing is a conundrum for you. Frankly I don't know how to solve it, I would recommend you go to the Teahouse and ask questions there. They will probably ask you to put your request on this page, and wait for an unbiased editor to do the work.

I recommend that you practice using fully qualified citations, ones that look like this under the covers (click edit source to see what I'm talking about): [1]

You are free to remove the Proposed deletion and orphan tags yourself, when you are convinced that the issues are resolved.

Hello Mdcora -- The article passed muster. I dropped an infobox in. You are cautioned against updating the article; you are too close to the subject. Leave your requests on this page. Someone will get to them. Have a nice day. Rhadow (talk) 18:12, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
