Coast guard

[edit]

OLEG CASSINI WAS IN THE COAST GUARD IN 1942-1943 IN SAN PEDRO, CALIF. AT THE SAME TIME THAT VICTOR MATURE AND THE WESTMORE BROTHERS WERE. I KNOW BECAUSE I KNEW THEM THERE WHEN I WAS THERE ON THE CGR-301. JOHN BOLOTIN QM 2/C USCGR

Marital history

[edit]

Unfortunately, all the information about Merry Farhney was taken from The New York Times coverage of the Cassini-Fahrney divorce. It is not idle gossip; it is in court documents (which are not sealed, by the way) and was openly published in the New York Times in its reports of the court proceedings. I'm reverting to the previous version.

Whether or not it is public documentation is irrelevant. What she did before or after her marriage to Cassini is not relevant to HIS wikipedia page (other than what affected her marriage to Cassini), therefore in our (her descendants) it IS idle gossip, just as it was gossip then. If we, her descendants wanted to make her life history public, we would create a Wikipedia page for her ourselves. Yes, we are well aware of her history, but she is a mere footnote in the 40's social scene, and we do not feel there is any need for this sort of exposure. We respectfully request that you remove the information that does not pertain directly to her marriage to Cassini. Thank you, MStrauser (talk) 16:03, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discrepancy on origin of pillbox hat

[edit]

There appears to be a discrepancy for both this article and the one on Halston, as to who designed the hats worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Maybe both did, but the articles do not make this clear. I can't verify either way.--Metron4 (talk) 15:52, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page numbers are needed

[edit]

The 1987 book authored by Oleg Cassini, In my Own Fashion lists all 30 of the citations from it as on page 379. This is impossible, as each referenced item must have an individual (or a narrow range) of appropriate page number(s). Please see Wikipedia:Reference#Citing_multiple_pages_of_the_same_source - Thanks! CZmarlin (talk) 20:37, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is also in the use of these books as references:
  • Cassini, Oleg (2011). The Wedding Dress.
  • Cassini, Oleg (1995). A Thousand Days of Magic.
The pages that contain the specific information must be provided. It is not enough to simply point to, and say, "its somewhere in this book"!

What happened to this article

[edit]

This article has been turned into a PR release all mention and reference to his first and second wife have all been white washed. The ongoing Trial about the Cassini Estate and Christina Cassini have been removed.66.108.85.40 (talk) 04:40, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"born a Count"

[edit]

The lede reads, "Oleg Cassini (11 April 1913 – 17 March 2006) (born a Count)..." Isn't "count" a hereditary title, such that Oleg would not be born a count, but rather would be first in line to be count upon the death of his father?

Also, "count" should not be capitalized as here it is not being used as part of a proper noun (e.g., Count Chocula). I'll fix that point, but would appreciate someone more knowledgeable about the titles to weigh in on the "born a count" issue. I'll leave that be for a while. TJRC (talk) 00:00, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's been three weeks and hearing no objection, I am removing the "(born a count)" parenthetical. TJRC (talk) 21:02, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Needs more secondary sources

[edit]

Cassini was a well-known designer and much must have been written about him. The article is weakened by references being drawn mostly from his own books. Other RS are needed. Also, needs tempering of laudatory tone - one person's assessment does not make him most important designer in history. Let's get a grip here!Parkwells (talk) 01:38, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Did he remarry Gene Tierney or not?

[edit]

Gene Tierney says they re-married after their divorce, only to divorce a second time in 1952. But here, it says they reunited but did not remarry. Which is correct? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 22:42, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at this video on YouTube GENE TIERNEY - "MYSTERIES & SCANDALS" [387] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.168.238.138 (talk) 19:55, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

From Oleg Cassini's memoirs p.241-42: "Gene and I had been married ten years, after a fashion: the last five had been a series of separations and reconciliations, some of which were rather unlikely.....She returned to California in February of 1952, and proceeded with the divorce... Fuddleduddle (talk) 21:51, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the above quote, here is one from Self-Portrait, Gene Tierney's memoir:" In February of 1948, my attorney,Charles Millikan, called and said he was the papers and I could pick them up on March 10. I told him to wait a little. He laughed and said it sounded like good news. I said maybe it was. We thought we could patch up our differences.....So we reconciled."(p.147,148) paperback edition. Fuddleduddle (talk) 22:46, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I accidentally omitted the word "preparing" in line 4 above. Suffice to conclude in answer to your question. Gene Tierney and Oleg Cassini did not divorce until 1952. No remarriage occurred but a number of reconciliations after separations.

Christina's Birth 1948

[edit]

The article seems to suggest that Christina may not have been Oleg's child yet there is absolutely no hint of this in either the autobiographies of Gene Tierney or Oleg Cassini. Gene writes on the birth:" ..our daughter Christina was born. I was fascinated by her perfection and alertness....I watched and studied her with joy. I knew at last we had a healthy child.("Self-Portrait p.146.) Oleg wrote:"Our second daughter,Christina was born in New York on November 18,1948.She was a perfect child physically, and would only suffer the handicap of having a father who was too busy to be much of a father."(In My Own Fashion p.208) Not the comments of parents who thought their child was not legitimate. The reference about possible illegitimacy sticks out and should be either counterbalanced or eliminated. Fuddleduddle (talk) 04:49, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Last sentence before Death

[edit]

It says "at the time Marianne was in jail for refusing to comply with a court order. Cassini's estate was auctioned by Doyle in June 2019." Who's Doyle, there no other mention of such a person. 90.242.150.83 (talk) 14:29, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
