Ideological Debate[edit]

There appears to be a consistent effort by a few editors to add/delete references to OneCity's ideology. This topic should be addressed through community dialogue prior to any more edits being made. This is a prerequisite stage before moving on to arbitration if a solution can not be found. I'd encourage those editors making changes to make their cases here in the Talk page before engaging in an "edit war" in the InfoBox. "Left-wing" was originally added by me in this edit, but after rereading the source, I think "left-wing" should remain removed. It appears (to me) that the author of the piece was using "left" quite broadly to refer to the centre-left to left-wing as a whole. CentreLeftRight ✉ 19:38, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

vote keep the left wing label. It's been a journey but here is where I land. I came to these edits tracking down a string of similar edits on other pages removing citied material by a user while doing vandal patrol of pages I monitor. When I went to warn the user about edit waring on the page I monitor I noticed the user was engaging in some edit waring on two other pages from existing warnings on their talk page (specifically pointing to this one). As part of investigating deeper all of this user's changes to see if there was a pattern, I reviewed this one.

There I looked at the cited material and the edit summary. In the edit summary, he called the source dubious but I couldn't find any source online to specifically call the cited source as not trustworthy or reliable (so that claim seemed more a personally biased take on the surface), and when I reviewed the cited source, given that it references facts around funding sources and not editorial assumptions I was inclined to trust this source as proof for the left-wing claim. I also did a google search. There I found this reference to a topic that refers to the group as "Centre-left[3] [4] to left-wing[5]" citing several sources. https://everything.explained.today/OneCity_Vancouver/

Given this and also the similar arguments to remove cited material related to topics that associate groups to "leftists" and "left wing" on other pages that the author removed that were also reverted, I was biased to assume these edits were likely were also bad in the same vein and so I reverted them all.

I live in the US and don't know well this group's politics directly so I'm going off what I can find online and source from but from what I can tell, "left wing" could be apt. --ZacBowling ^(user|talk) 02:51, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- If you're from the US, then the idea of what is "left" could be quite skewed vs. what would be described as "left" in Canada. The US's main "left wing" party, the Democratic one, is about as centrist as you can get, so that would likely predispose Americans to collapse distinctions between a slightly left-leaning centrist party and an actual leftwing one (traditionally here that's the NDP, although it would be a fair observation to say they've been drifting to the centre quite a bit in the last 10 years).
- Anyway, "centre-left" is more exact/specific, and more long-standing, so it seems to be most appropriate absent any sourced particularly left-wing policies that OneCity might espouse that would more clearly move it away from the centre. —Joeyconnick (talk) 00:29, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
