Little as I know of Iconography, that icon is of a certainty not from the IVth Century.

ho ho, spot-on! InfernoXV 08:52, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still no provenance or date (but see query result on Talk:Icon#Provenance query). Have changed caption accordingly. Haploidavey (talk) 00:39, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page needs an expert

[edit]

The claims about Onnophrius's life should really be edited by someone with access to Paphnutius's history, and then it should be cited as such. As it stands the article is mishmash of some bare biographical facts (which should still be referenced), some unreferenced wierdness (which quite obviously requires a reference), and some personal interpolations on the part of contributors (which should be turned into referenced claims or deleted as original research). Name variants

[edit]

"However, these European names may derive from the name Godfrey rather than the Egyptian[16]" - As a linguist I must object to this - even if it has a quoted reference it is utter scientific nonsense. The reference is a non-linguist. I'm taking this bit out as we really don't need false speculations, right? ehamstra 11:53, 14 June 2010 (UTC)ehamstra[reply]

Beautiful Rabbit

[edit]

Erm, the Egyptian word for "hare" is, if I remember rightly, sXAt. "Wnn-nfr" from what I recall means something like "existing beautifully", or similar. It's an epithet of Osiris which later became a common name, hence the modern Onofrio/Onufrio, etc. I will correct/add reference in a while - I'm moving at the moment and my dictionary is in a box full of books. 92.25.232.75 (talk) 23:54, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Nefertum[reply]

Onuphria

[edit]

Of the two references given for the Onuphria claim, one is a blog and the other is unfindable. I get no book hits, so I'm taking it out for now pending a credible source. Mangoe (talk) 01:53, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
