[edit]One dictionary I consulted defined the sports-related use of the word "open" as a type of tournament in which both professionals and amateurs are able to qualify for competition. (cf. http://wordnet.princeton.edu)
Might this distinction be the basis of the perceived age distinction noted in the current wikipedia definition?
National "open championships"
[edit]Isn't it the case, that people from other countries may enter national open championships? For example when it's Finnish Open Championships, people from Sweden or other neighbouring countries may participate. --90.191.166.161 (talk) 14:34, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
