Cleanup[edit]

There's a lot of good information here but it really needs to be cleaned up. Most obviously, is this article about the 1981 raids, or all Canadian bathhouse raids? -- TheMightyQuill 17:30, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's about the 1981 raids, which played a pivotal role in the development of the LGBT community in Canada; other raids are mentioned only in passing. I don't see how this is unclear. Bearcat 23:20, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the other raids to the bottom.

June 26: Pride Week celebrates its 25th anniversary. Newly-appointed Toronto police chief Bill Blair becomes the first chief of police in the city's history to participate in the Pride parade.

This seems kind of extrenuous to the timeline, doesn't it? If the article was Gay Rights in Toronto, it would make sense to include it, but that's not the case. I'm not saying it's not interesting, just that it doesn't belong here.-- TheMightyQuill 12:56, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Opening statement, national significance[edit]

The article's first sentence reads: The 1981 Toronto bathhouse raids marked a major turning point in the history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community in Canada. I have questions unanswered by the article as I read it:

Is there a primary source that labels these raids as "a major turning point"? Otherwise, this seems POV.
Were these raids actually a turning point across the nation, or primarily of Toronto and Toronto policing significance? What impact, for example, did these raids have on the LGBT community in Vancouver? Did laws or policing change elsewhere in Canada as a result of these raids? This connection is not made (or not made clear) in the current article.

Specifically against gays?[edit]

Were these raids conducted specifically because the men in the bathhouses were gay, or was it a raid against bathhouses in general? The article didn't make it clear. Thanks. --DearPrudence 00:16, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Non 1981 info moved[edit]

All the raids that took place between 1977 and 2005 have been moved to Canadian Bathouse raids which now links to this 1981 page. Now this page seems acceptable.

I suggest those familiar with this topic go to that page and develop it, I have done the initial work, but it needs a better introduction and some more information on Canadian law vis-a-vis the gay community.
