8th Army[edit]

Was it the 8th Army or the 8th Air Army (or even mistakenly the Italian 8th Army)? In the Red Army OOB, Beevor simply refers to "8th Army." Farawayman (talk) 18:48, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Probably the 8th Air Army. It was down in the south. Kges1901, please note that the air force of the Soviet Union 1941-45 was effectively the 'Red Army Air Force', or some such, so 'Red Army' is still correct. Still was the WPRA. Buckshot06 (talk) 21:59, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Article now says 8th Air Army. I've checked my copy of Beevor, and he says 8th Air Army. As for the move, it makes the article consistent with the Kursk, Soviet invasion of Poland, and Korsun–Cherkassy pocket OOBs, although you're right, the VVS didn't become its own branch until 1946.
