Soviet Victory?[edit]

The info box says the result of the operation was "soviet victory", but that seems difficult to support given what the article says. 50.24.30.51 (talk) 02:08, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Who was in charge?[edit]

The text says the task force was led by Komm. Wilhelm Meendsen-Bohlken, in Scheer, yet the infobox says the commander was Adm. Hubert Schmundt; so which is it? Which one of them was in charge? Also, Schmundt’s page says he was commander of all German naval forces in Northern Norway, but Kemp says he had been replaced as Flag Officer Northern Waters by an Adm. Kluber by this time. Does anybody know for sure? Xyl 54 (talk) 15:49, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Victory, again[edit]

The infobox stated that the result was "Indecisive, strategic German victory". I've altered this to "limited German success": 'victory' is too strong a term for the outcome, and there was nothing 'strategic' about it; the operation didn't affect Soviet traffic on the Northern Sea Route unduly, and made no difference to the overall strategic position in the Arctic. If anything, it was a strategic failure... Anyway, I've changed it to something more realistic. I trust everyone is OK with that... Xyl 54 (talk) 15:55, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That seems in line with the sources I've read. This operation had little impact, and certainly was not a "strategic" victory for anyone. Nick-D (talk) 16:31, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

Put a lot in from Barr (1975) with more to go and then a copy-edit (them Russian terms are a bit of a novelty). Keith-264 (talk) 15:35, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

B class review[edit]

@Keith-264: B class. But please double check the following. Djmaschek (talk) 16:37, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Under Preliminary operations there is a word "northabout", of which I cannot guess its meaning. Perhaps there is a missing sentence fragment between the words "north" and "about" (?).
  • Under 26 August, attack on Dickson, there is a sentence, "The volume of wireless transmissions from Dikson had shown that it was important for the west end of Northern Sea Route." Is there a missing word or words? What was important?
Northabout implies that there are two routes, via the north or the south and the northern one was chosen. "The volume of wireless transmissions from Dikson had shown that it was an important base for the western end of Northern Sea Route." How now? Keith-264 (talk) 18:12, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
