Maybe some info on when using track-at-once and when using disc-at-once would be helpfull. Not only tech specs but also practical application....

I added a section about a special audio mode, and it's practical use; I did not elaborate much on the latter since I have not found sources that state clearly that such audio discs are easier to read on this or that material. My own experience is that Audio Master QR has made me a couple of audio cd that worked nicely in any car and in grumpy old cd players. But it's my experience, and I wrote no blog about it to cite so I did not write it in the article proper.Mandragorae (talk) 17:04, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Pre-gap audio before the first track of the CD makes it possible to burn an unnumbered, "hidden" audio track. This track can only be accessed by "rewinding" from the start of the first track, backwards into the pre-gap audio." - I never thought of using it for that haha. I should go check my CDs I think :-P Dancraggs 21:54, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's used in a few CDs. One I know of is the UK version of EP7 by Autechre. In my opinion, this is the "correct" way to make a hidden track, instead the more common method where 30 minutes of silence is inserted before a final track (as on Nevermind). The long silence method is a nuisance to program around, and actually makes the "hidden" track more conspicuous. However, a downside of the Track 0 method is that some CD players don't work with it. Dunno the rule on that, and I've never owned a CD player that couldn't play Track 0 (after holding the << button).

SAO

[edit]

This doesn't mention SAO - Session at Once. However, I don't know enough about it to say it, other than its the sole supported mode on my dual-format Sony.

This methode requires a formatting of the medium, and is preferably used with RW discs. On such a formated disc, the drive can write packets directly to the disc much like on a floppy disquette. I don't have references on hand right now, so I won't be adding info to the page as of now. It should be easy to find, however.Mandragorae (talk) 17:04, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

About the difference between english page and other languages

[edit]

What about the english page being "Optical disc recording modes", whereas the others are "Disc-at-once"? I'm not familiar enough to know how to rename a page. I'll take a look around, because I'd like to add the AMQR info into the french page also.Mandragorae (talk) 17:04, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
