Stalin's early power-base[edit]

Apparently some Bolsheviks had the attitude that party organizational work was boring and undramatic, and so suited to a stolid unimaginative personality like Stalin. Stalin was the Politburo-Orgburo liaison from 1919, and took advantage of this (and his subsequent appointment to the General Secretariat in 1922) to place his supporters in positions that helped him solidify his power...
