Catholic Hierarchy HERE gives his date of death as 3 November 1998. But L'Echo appears to have published an obituary on the 2nd and Il Terreno reported on the 3rd that his death was announced "yesterday" by the Swiss bishops conference. There’s also what appears to be a wire service report in some US newspapers (which I can’t access) that specifies that he died in the Insel clinic on Monday. And November 2 was a Monday.
