short history of the Origen page

[edit]

I found the Origen page unsatisfactory a long time ago, for two reasons:

  • the normal reference name is indeed "Origen of Alexandria", just as e.g. "Clemens of Alexandria" who is often quoted on the same WP pages;
  • the presence of the links under "Modern uses of the name".

the following note was posted on the Talk Page:

Proposal: to rename this page Origen of Alexandria and move the section Modern Uses of the Name to a new disambiguation page (to be named Origen). Dampinograaf (talk) 14:38, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The only reactions came in after I made the move (eight months later...).

I certainly agree that the commercial links can be removed on the Origen page.

I do not agree with a return to the old page name.

P.S. Do you know many Augustines that can be confused with Augustine of Hippo? I bet he is the one users are after when they simply search "Augustine". Let's try to be consistent, an use the full name of a person as pagename. --Dampinograaf (talk) 01:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it does have the advantage of getting rid of the games etc. supposed named after Origen. That subsection was truly weird, rather debatable, and hard to monitor.Student7 (talk) 12:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus to move back

[edit]

The consensus reached at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Origen was that this page should either be moved to Origen (disambiguation) or deleted, and in either case Origen of Alexandria be moved to Origen. Neither approach received the consensus, but what was rejected was the current status quo. I therfore propose that we simply choose the move option as the least dramatic. All in favour... — Gareth Hughes (talk) 14:47, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
