Orlan space suitsOrlan space suit — to conform with Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Prefer_singular_nouns —(sdsds - talk) 00:08, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - I think this is correct, and non-controversial. I think the move requires an administrator because Orlan space suit is a redirect to the current (plural) page that needs to be reversed (i.e. the plural should be a redirect to the singular). This article has been renamed from Orlan space suits to Orlan space suit as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 11:13, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More Information?

[edit]

I was hoping to find out how many times the Orlan can be re-used, and how it compares to the US equivalent. If somebody can add this sort of information that would be very useful. Batoom 09:21, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Unlike the American space suits, is very simple to use and does not require maintenance every six months and has a lifespan of approximately five years." The EMU is designed for 25 EVA's and/or maintenance cycle after 6 years. Mingebinge2 (talk) 16:46, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, "The Orlan has a useful life of 4 years or up to 15 EVAs, limited by its pressure bladder which is made of natural rubber (which deteriorates over time)"Mingebinge2 (talk) 17:01, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lights

[edit]

LEDs were use on the later EVAs with the Orlan-M suit and is used with the Orlan-MK suits.

On Expedition 22 they use only LEDs 22.

On Expedition 17 & 18 they used both the LED lights along with the traditional bulbs. 17 18

On Expedition 15 they used only LEDs 15.

On Expedition 14 and all previous they used two pairs of light systems that both used bulbs. [2] I was wrong LEDs were actually used on the spacewalk.

Mirrors

[edit]

Looking at the first image, the labels for the switches etc. seem to be in mirror writing. (Looking it up, it seems that "ХОЛОД" means "COLD" and "ТЕПЛО" means "WARM".) (And it's not the whole image that's mirrored, other more "ornamental" labels, like "Роскосмос" are not mirrored.) And looking at this image, the things on the wrists aren't watches but seem to be mirrors. So i guess the idea is to hold one wrist in front of your chest, look into the wrist mirror and change the settings (temperature &c.) on the suit with the other hand. If this is the case and anybody has a source that confirms this, could ey please add something like that? ospalh (talk) 20:01, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Google is your friend. Maybe i'll add something myself when i get to it. ospalh (talk) 20:05, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
