This article is kind of awful. Firstly, it's a snap shot of 1911, rather than trying to give a history of the institution. It's unclear what the term even refers to - is it only the parliament from 1867 to 1918, or does it refer to the pre-1849 Hungarian parliament/diet as well? Then there's the title, which is horrific - unlike names of things in Romance or Germanic languages, Hungarian names are going to be completely unintelligible to the vast majority of English speakers, and I don't think I've ever seen this term used in English language history books. john k (talk) 00:46, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Merge with Diet of Hungary. Gryffindor (talk) 02:15, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Translation?

[edit]

Is it worth mentioning what this word translates into? I'm not a scholar of Magyar by any means, but my limited knowledge tells me that the word literally translates to "nation seat", or "nation's seat". "Ország" translates as "nation" or "country", and "gyűlés" is "seat" or "chair".

I take the word to basically mean "seat of government", as in a capital. Perhaps someone better acquainted with Magyar can elucidate. Shideg (talk) 03:54, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

The result of this discussion was no consensus. Yet another case where the destination article was never tagged, meaning interested editors were not given notice, so we can't declare consensus. The proposer's follow-up post is perplexing; checking the article histories I don't see that this article's content was ever merged as he claims. The body in the 15th century was called Országgyűlés, from 1867 it was the Országgyűlés and even today it is still the Országgyűlés. At least the monarchical Országgyűlés should be merged. Same situation as with Diet of Japan, which always had the same name as well. Gryffindor (talk) 02:14, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Split is complete, all the information in this article is now in the Diet of Hungary. This article may be deleted/redirected. Gryffindor (talk) 12:49, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
