False claim[edit]

I have removed the following statement as it is far from true: It is said to be the oldest girls' high school in the southern hemisphere, although St Mary's College in Wellington also claims that title. There are a number of girls' schools in Australia that were established prior to 1871, such as St Catherine's School, Sydney (established 1856), and St Vincent's College (established 1858). Perhaps this statement should be altered to the oldest girls' high school in New Zealand. Someone with a better knowledge of the school can make this call.Loopla 04:38, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OGHS claims to be the oldest state secondary school for girls in the Southern Hemisphere, and sixth oldest of its type in the world. I suspect that the Australian ones may be private or church-run schools. Grutness...wha? 08:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
