GA review

[edit]

I do not believe this article meets GA criteria at this time. I have several concerns that I believe would take considerable work.

  1. The article is full of red links. If the articles aren't likely to be made any time soon, the wikilinks can be removed.
  2. The image is missing information on the author. Since the claim is that it is in the public domain because copyright expires 70 years after the author's death, it seems important to provide author information.
  3. Many authors are referred to only by their last names, but full names should probably be used.
  4. Copyediting would help a lot and should have been done before nominating. Things like "talanted" would have been caught. "he also translated authors as..." sounds awkward, as does "the beginner of modernism".
  5. Punctuation problems are present throughout the article, and this should be a major focus of the copyediting.
  6. From the lead, " in the last forty years his influence has been declining" dates the article. It should be rephrased so that it could hold true any time in the future.
  7. What does "battlesong of his generation" mean?
  8. Much of the article is unreferenced (the entire "Work" section, part of the "Controversies" section, and all of the "Influence and legacy" section, as well as several statements in the "Biography" section).
  9. The article contains several point of view statements ("talanted" --a misspelling of "talented", "the most renowned", "prestigious", "his masterpiece", "powerful", "oppressed", etc.).
  10. The lead should be expanded, especially after more information is added to the article. Beginning the article with a single-sentence paragraph doesn't make for a good hook.
  11. Claims are made throughout the article that need more explanation. Much of the article leaves the reader wanting more information. A few examples:
  1. "wrote poems under different pseudonyms" -- what were they?
  2. "he was given several honorary positions and awards" -- such as?
  3. "The poetry collection which Župančič is best known for is the book of children poetry, Ciciban, published in 1915." -- if it's one of his most famous works, it needs more than one sentence. Can you describe the work?
  4. "there are divergent opinions on its exact meaning" -- what are they?
  5. "many of his verses and utterances have become catchphrases or common cultural references" -- can you give examples?
  6. "Numerous streets, public buildings and institutions in Slovenia, but also in the Slovene-inhabited areas of Italy and Austria, are named after him." -- examples?
  7. "The following year, he got married." -- To whom? Did he have children?

The biggest concerns are the need for expansion (please note that the list I gave should be taken as examples rather than an exhaustive list) and the lack of sources. Point of view statements are also problematic, and the examples I provided should also be taken as a partial list. Copyediting is also needed to ensure that the prose is clear and that problems with writing conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation) are fixed. At this point, I am failing the article. I encourage you to continue to work on the article, using this list for ideas on how to improve it. Best wishes, GaryColemanFan (talk) 04:33, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
