Did You Know A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on May 1, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Captain (later Rear Admiral) Otto Becher (pictured) was awarded both the Distinguished Service Order and United States Legion of Merit as commander of HMAS Warramunga during the Korean War?
Current status: Featured article

Some ideas for additional sources[edit]

  • Australia at Arms: According to a Google Book search, this should have some more info on Becher.
  • Warramunga in Assualt on Wosan Doesn't really have much that's not already in the article, but perhaps good for a cite for variety.
  • Becher was in the 1974 edition of Who's Who. It's unlikely that this would have anything not already in the article, but you never know where you'll find a gem.
  • A man of Becher's stature would certainly have been the subject of obituaries in the major Australian newspapers. I don't have access to their archives, but someone who does could probably find a good amount (in all likelihood, more than just an obituary).

Perhaps none of these have anything to offer, but this article really does need more information, so these are just my ideas. Cool3 (talk) 04:36, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing to speak of in Who's Who. David Underdown (talk) 14:05, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, David. Ian is attempting to get hold of Australia at Arms for me to see if there is anything in there. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 23:04, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While I can't say I feel the article is lacking in information or sources (as evinced by my current support for it in FA), another book which has some references is Breaking Ranks by Peter Cabban and David Salter - aside from providing another perspective on the Voyager disaster, it notes that Vengeance narrowly avoided a collision in the Suez Canal, with Lt (later Rear Admiral and Governor) David Martin on watch duties and includes a choice quote from Becher about officers of the watch having their "arses sticking out of the radar screen" instead of using their eyes... Bryce, let me know if you can access it yourself, otherwise I'll add that to my Mitchell Library shopping list. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:18, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to agree that I don't think the article is lacking in the area of information or sources, either; hence the FAC. However, one must make an attempt to satisfy any and all reviewer's comment's, methinks. I personally do not possess a copy of that book, and the libraries are quite limited around here, so if you wouldn't mind putting it on your list that would be excellent, Ian, thanks. I will add in some more information from The Cruel Legacy, which details Becher's invlovement in the Melbourne and Voyager collision. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 23:42, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bryce, in case you're wondering about other sources, I've been at home crook since Tuesday so no expeditions to the Mitchell lately; with luck should get it done by late next week - though (also with luck) the FAC may have completed successfully by then... :-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 03:06, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you are feeling better, Ian. Forget about the sources, just take it easy. :) I've been slow in getting around to add info from The Cruel Legacy as well due to some school work and assignments I was preoccupied with, but I should be free to add what I can early next week. To my relief, the FAC does appear to be going well now with five supports. Thanks, Ian, and get well! Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 05:43, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Sorry, wiki-newb here. There's clearly vandalism at the top of this page. The edit history says a bot reverted the change automatically, and when I try to edit the page, the vandalism is not there... but I've refreshed the page several times and it's still there.

Hope someone savvier than I figures it out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.195.210.243 (talk) 01:18, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
